About

Located at America's historic crossroads, Route 66 and Lincoln Highway, JAHM is a must-see attraction that is affordable and fun for the whole family!

Story

Located at the historic intersection of Route 66 and Lincoln Highway, the Joliet Area Historical Museum occupies the space formerly known as the Ottawa Street Methodist Church at the intersection of Cass and Ottawa Streets in downtown Joliet. Since its opening in the fall of 2002, the museum's main exhibition gallery serves as an introduction to the many stories of the Joliet area and its people.

Exhibits are enhanced by state-of-the-art audio-visual presentations, life-size models, award-winning touch screen visuals, and even a step-in Lunar Lander Simulator for your interaction as you explore how the past shaped the world you now enjoy. Temporary exhibits and targeted educational programming provide additional interpretive opportunities.

The Joliet Area Historical Museum has come into existence from efforts of the City of Joliet, the Joliet Area Historical Society, Joliet Junior College and Joliet citizens. The city purchased the church, and the Joliet Area Historical Museum was incorporated into a 501(c) non-profit organization in 1999.

We went for the Halloween bash and had a great time. There were crafts for the kids and various area businesses had tables and games set up. They held a costume parade and it was a blast. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. This is a fantastic museum with lots of neat displays of Joliet history. Definitely worth a visit if you have a couple hours to spend.

Joliet Historical Museum is a fun way to learn more about the city. It's easy to forget how rich the city's history really is until you walk through these well maintained displays. I always walk out with a new appreciation of the area.

Great displays of local and regional history. From the Apollo missions to the "greatest band in the land." A great place to start your Route 66 journey too! If you want a real treat... join them for Joliets annual Star Wars Day in June. Such a good time for all ages.

Don't expect a history of Rt 66. This is a history of Joliet. Interesting to learn about the local celebrities. The staff was very helpful suggesting a lunch place on the route.
