Reviews
I have driven by K Lounge many times and have always felt compelled to give it a try, especially when they started having the 50% off the first haircut promotion. However, because I don't get my hair cut often, I'm very wary about new hair salons, especially if I don't have any positive feedback from family or friends about them. The reviews on Yelp seemed promising, but a lot of them seem to be from users who only have written one review ... eh, but whatever, I threw caution to the wind and decided to call and make an appointment. The store is located on TC Blvd, surrounded by older shops and because it's on a big street, I believe there is only street parking. (There is a lot on the end of the street corner, but I'm not sure if there are rules for parking there.) I personally really like how K Lounge is set up. The walls are purple with really nice paintings on them and pretty lights hanging from the ceiling. The chairs, mirrors, waiting area, everything is modern. Even the music playing is current gangster rap haha. The owner and the man who cut my hair is Ken. Reading from the reviews, I learned that he left working for another salon and opened up his own place. He's super nice, speaking predominantly Mandarin, but can speak English and a little Cantonese, too. When he accessed how I wanted my hair to be cut, I basically let him take control of the reins ... I just told him I wanted it layered and how much I would be okay with him cutting off. The haircut for women is usually $35, including wash, cut and style. I had my hair thoroughly washed (almost 10 minutes!) then cut for another 30 minutes and then styled for another 10 with finishing touches afterward. Really felt like a high-end upscale salon experience with a very affordable price, especially seeing as it's 50% off. I really liked how the haircut turned out. It was layered really well, and still managed to frame my face at the end. Also, he could tell I had cut my own bangs, and he tried to fix them up which ended up looking really good and ... couple days later, it still settles very nicely after a wash. When he cut and styled my hair, he put a lot of time into it, especially with the style as he dried strand after strand to curl it around my face. I almost wanted to stop him since I probably will never be able to style it like that! But I have to admit that the haircut was the best one I have had in my entire life (although I haven't had too many cut professionally). I know I left a really positive review for Silver Scissors recently, but I think K Lounge (or Ken) beats it in my book. The price at half off is great! The $35 is a little high for me, but he gave me a stamp card for 20% off if I come within two months each time (and if I get 10 stamps, I get 50% off the 11th cut). I don't think I will come in after 2 months, but I am pretty set on returning maybe in six months to get another haircut from Ken.
