Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center

Story

Kaiser Foundation Hospital – Fontana is a large Kaiser Permanente medical facility and 420-bed hospital in Fontana, California. Built in 1955 to replace the smaller hospital at the Kaiser Steel Mill, the facility now serves over 400,000 members of Kaiser Permanente's health care plans in the area. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission. According to U.S. News & World Report, the hospital performs highly in diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, geriatrics, pulmonology, and urology. In the most recent year with available data, Kaiser Fontana had 90,675 emergency room visits, 26,640 admissions, performed 4,956 inpatient and 21,790 outpatient surgeries.HistoryIn 1943, Henry J. Kaiser and Dr. Sidney R. Garfield opened a 50-bed hospital, housing six physicians for the 3000 employees and their families at the new Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana, California, offering a then revolutionary pre-paid health care plan for $0.60/week for adults, and $0.30/week for children. In 1945, the Kaiser Permanente health plan was opened to the public, providing the opportunity of affordable health care to the residents of Fontana. Following the end of World War II, as the steel mill and community continued to grow, the demand rapidly outgrew the small facility, and in 1955, the hospital was moved to its current location on Sierra Ave. It has undergone an almost constant pace of expansion and remodel to reach its current state, with major expansions about once a decade; it now contains over 400 beds, houses over 150 doctors, and employs 6000.

Avoid this hospital at all cost. I went in because I was having an asthma attack. I would not have gone if I didn't lose my inhaler at work. I waited about 30 minutes to finally be called. In that 30 minutes my asthma attack subsided. I let the front desk nurse know that I don't need treatment just a prescription for a new inhaler because I lost mine. Anyways the nurse brought me to the fast track room where I waited over 2 and a half hours. The doctor never showed up my symptoms went away completely. I was feed up with how long the Doctor was taking even though the nurse told him all I needed was a new inhaler. That I decided to leave. The nurse couldn't even find the doctor to let him know. This place is so unorganized it's pathetic. The rooms are also so dirty no wonder they keep losing patients. Literally 2 rooms down someone was dying code blue and the nurses and doctors took their lovely time to go save the dying lady. UCLA is a much better hospital. The last time I lost my inhaler. The nurse went back and talked to the doctor. She got him to prescribe me a new inhaler to replace my lost one in about 30 minutes. They were also super busy too with other patients and still the doctor prescribed me my inhaler without having to go in any room or wait for a mass amount of time. Beware of Kaiser.

I have no complains so far about Kaiser. I had triple bypass surgery. I was treated very well before and after surgery. A nurse was sent to my house to check on me. Also a physical therapist was sent to my house to see how I was progressing. There was only two mean nurses in this whole process. She refuse to give me pain medication because it was not time jet even though the instructions were pain medication as needed. She said I was a cry baby. She worked at Kaiser, Sunset. Otherwise, everything went really well.

Been waiting in the E.R for more then an hour with my wife for her pain and swollen leg. So far only one person has been called in. Now I know if anything ever wrong with me in the future. I would rather be at home and die in peace. Because you dang well know Kaiser don't care about their patients with there rude attitude. Wish I would've gone with Health Net insurance at work!

I brought my friend here in major pain. The people at the front were not only rude, they showed zero empathy. The nurse literally said to me when I asked him to help her walk up for vitals, "she walked in...she doesn't need help." They then showed no sense of urgency to get her checked in (or the plethora of others waiting line.) This is an ER. The people there are experiencing some type of trauma. Just because the staff sees it everyday doesn t give them the right to be desensitized. Not when this is a PAID SERVICE. Sensitivity training is desperately needed at triage and check in.
