Cocktails were meticulously crafted and artfully presented. I had the Space Invader Cobra, which was served very very cold in a glass that looked like a Japanese girl with a real flower over her ear. My favorite dish was the Cebiche Trio. The scallops in the squid ink was new to me and clean to the taste. The difference between each offering on the trio was striking and unique. I liked that while Kaiyo is a fusion restaurant, it does not make you feel like they are just making stuff up. From the appetizers to dessert, when the chef is true to his craft, there is nothing better than that. This is a good place for discovery of new foods and the feeling of a special occasion. It was an experience, which is what we were looking for.
We had a great time here! Dinner was delicious, and we tried lots of different things: Drinks were pretty strong, which is rare these days. Appreciated attentive service. Atmosphere is lively and fun. Looking forward to checking out other locations.
Beautiful view and bar. Bartenders are very talented. I like to have bartenders to create their own cocktails based on my requests. I asked for a mezcal drink, but something that is not sweet and will not overpower the mezcal but enhance it. He did a very good job of creating the right balance.
Made reservations, I had to use my credit card to reserve a table. I took my wife out last night for a date Night thinking this place has to be really good based on the reviews and the fact they serve Peruvian and Japanese food. The ceviche was the worst we have ever had in our lives. It didn’t taste like ceviche at all. No flavor, not spicy, we ordered one sushi roll and we never received it. We told our waitress to remove it from our bill. The prices don’t justify the food. Too expensive for what we received. 2 ceviches, 2 hot sakes to share 4 oysters and 2 miso soups: $150.00 The oysters were good I got to say. At the end the waitress apologized and she said the kitchen was backed up because they only had one chef back there. We weren’t compensated for waiting and not receiving our only sushi roll we ordered. She seemed overwhelmed the whole night . Whatever the reasons are for the bad experience that night , for what they charge which is overpriced …. it’s not an excuse. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Food and service was mediocre and overpriced!!!
This was our first time eating here and it was recommended by friends. Our experience lived up to the accolades. Each dish was so flavorful. The service was attentive without feeling rushed. We will definitely be back.
I had a variety of dishes including the pork bao, several nigiris, the Lima roll, wagyu nigiri. They were all really good, but the Lima Roll and Pork Bao were definitely the standouts. The cocktail pours here are also liberal and well mixed. Cow Hollow has long been devoid of an excellent ethnic watering hole and dinner spot. I think this place fills the void perfectly. The bar staff was also phenomenal and exceptionally attentive.
Went for brunch on a sunday — around 11:30-12pm. The place was empty; i sat outside after waiting for a few min for someone to greet me. Ordered a spicy miso soup needed more spiciness and the aji amarillo salmon. Food came fast. Decent but nothing mind-blowing. Had higher expectations.
This place is AMAZING! Love the ambience, the Peruvian-Japanese combination, the friendly staff, the cocktails. The trio ceviche is outstanding, special rolls are very tasty and everything is well presented. Definitely one of my favorite places!
We came here after shopping in the area. Stopped for some drinks and bites. Cocktails are broken down into categories to help with deciding if you want something refreshing, bold, or spicy. The decor is beautiful inside. Loved the bathroom. Sushi was okay. Favorite roll was Lima. Wagyu nigiri was good. Would probably not get the karage again. Walu butter fish skewer was a good choice. Beef skewer was decent. I appreciate them having vegetarian sushi for my veg friends but not my favorites. If you are wondering about why there is a Japanese influenced Peruvian restaurant, Peru has the second largest Japanese community in South America. This was due to the building of railroads in the 1880s. Separately, both cuisines have many techniques that compliment one another like ceviche/poke and grilling/yakitori
An average meal overall, from ceviche to sushi. The food was not memorable hence the average rating. Tries to do too much with the menu but fails to impress with the execution. Vibe is fun and relaxing.Food: 3/5
