The best stylist and colorist in D.C. Akiko is a pro and I don't understand the previous review saying that she's "not professional". Was it the service? You can't beat her skill and knowledge and she's very professional when setting appointments and payment. Was it the interior? If fun, whimsy, and a unique personal style are seen as unprofessional, then you're probably better off going to a big corporate hair place. I'm moving out of the area and planning on keeping my hair appointments with Akiko because she is so great.

This review was long overdue, but the BEST hair salon in DC!!!

I've moved several times in my life and usually it's not a big deal when I move, except for... "Who's gonna do my hair now?" When I moved to DC a few years ago, I was anxious about finding a new hair dresser and tried a few horrible places before finding Akiko. I found her when she was still working for a salon in Georgetown, and when she opened Kamiya-A, of course I had to follow her. 

This salon is a true labor of love in every way. She designed the interiors herself and picked out every piece of decor that's one of a kind. Extremely clean salon, yet warm and cozy atmosphere. Not only that Akiko has a great personality and extremely likable, you can tell she loves doing hair - both coloring and cutting (other stylists tend to specialize in color or cutting as they become more experienced, but she does both). When you inquire about new ideas (e.g., new style or color), she'll be completely honest with you, even if it means she won't make more sales. I love the place and her dog, whom she takes to work everyday. I always have a great time when I see her for my root touch-up. Pricing is very reasonable, especially when compared to high-end salons, where you'll have to pay much more but most likely the quality won't be better than Kamiya-A.

Akiko is the only person that cuts my hair now. I followed her from her old salon when she opened up her own shop. Its very quaint, and in a quiet part of Adams Morgan. Her hair cuts always grow out well and never disappoint me.

Akiko is one of the most amazing hairstylist in DC that i have ever known. Very versatile between asian hairs and western hairs, she can work with all and its always amazing!!! Its very hard to find someone who can work well with asian hair so Akiko is a saver for me :) very nice exclusive salon where its just you and only you in there.
