I opened Key Largo Yoga in January of 2008 after completing my 200 hour YTT in Costa Rica. Since then, I have been teaching classes at various locations in the upper keys.
I have studied with a variety of Master Teachers and learned so much from them but my true teacher is my own 5'7' body when I step on this little rubber mat. Each and every day I discover things about my body and what it is and is not ready to do.
I started practicing Ashtanga Yoga daily, with a DVD of Sharath, after my first true yoga class with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois! Yes, my very first yoga class was with Guruji himself!! Ashtanga was my first love, but I have come to love all styles of yoga. Yoga has become a daily study and practice as I try to discover the possibilities that lie within.
My perspective on life is simple. Life is merely a balancing act. When your needs are met you feel a sense of well-being. When your needs are not met, the balancing act continues.
We all enjoy feeling good physically and mentally. We would all like to have peace of mind. We all enjoy being joyful, peaceful, energized and relaxed.
One of the most obvious things about aging is that our bodies tend to become stiff. As our bodies tighten, not only are we less comfortable, we actually becomes less efficient and more prone to dis-"ease" and degeneration of the muscles and bones.
I am living proof that we can actually bring the suppleness of youth back into our bodies and be more flexible, durable and stronger. As I have learned to focus my physical and mental energy more effectively, I have become stronger, more flexible and centered.
When looking for a class that is a good fit for you, keep this in mind: my classes are appropriate for any level. I am trained and experienced working with all ability levels and offer modifications and challenges for each posture. This means that you can come to any class, and be confident that you will feel comfortable yet challenged.
Yoga is a personal practice, and the experience you have in class is largely up to you. There are no rules or guidelines that you must follow. I encourage my students to honor and listen to their bodies as they practice yoga. This means that you should never feel pressured to keep up with the rest of the class. On the same token, if you want more of a challenge, and I am not suggesting it, you have the power to step it up a notch and go deeper into a posture yourself.
My Teaching Style~Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga with its foundation in Ashtanga. The asanas (postures) mirror those of Ashtanga, but are done in a free-flowing sequence. I bring my own distinct style and sequence into my instruction of the practice. Vinyasa means “breathe-synchronized movement”, so the postures are timed with the breath. Vinyasa (or “Vinyasa Flow”) is fluid; each posture flows into the next, linked together with a series of movements also called a “Vinyasa” (plank, low plank, upward-facing dog, downward-facing dog). The beauty of this class is that the sequence, or “flow”, can be different in each class. I can focus on different areas of the body from day to day, or modify instruction depending on the demographics of my class. Vinyasa is appropriate for any ability level, from beginner to advanced practitioner.
Yoga is a gift....however, you need to open to receive~
