Stopped in for breakfast with the wife. It was seat yourself and we found a spot we liked. As I walked in I noticed the theme of chess everywhere. Aesthetic was nice and the place was clean. Waitress was nice enough to get us our menus and a water bottle for the table. However after we ordered I felt like the lack of needing to give refills prompted a much longer delay to her coming back to the table to eventually get boxes and our check. The food looked appealing and was plated decently. I’m no food critic, but my French toast left me longer for more. There wasn’t a lot of flavor in the toast or even the syrup. A bit bland overall. My wife’s skillet was pretty good. No complaints and the eggs were poached well as ordered. Overall a positive experience but was not wowed enough to justify coming back before trying out other places in the area first.
Celebrated Mother's Day with lunch at the Kingside Diner in Clayton. It was an enjoyable experience. The menu had a variety of choices for breakfast and lunch from pancakes and omelets to flatbread, sandwiches, and salads. The coffee selections were tempting as well as the adult beverages. Our food was fresh, flavorful, and seasoned well. The Breakfast Salad was delicious with the poached egg and avocado. The pancakes were large. The Corn+Beef+Hash=Diner was a play on words, but good. It's not from a can. There were chunks of meat mixed with hash brown potatoes and vegetables. We really didn't care for the flatbread. The bread/crust was dry and lacked flavor. The decor was upscale, clean and simple with a focus on a Chess theme. The acoustics in the restaurant made it difficult to hear conversation. The space was filled with people's voices and sounds of activity. There were at least two private eating areas which would be ideal for small lunch meetings. A significant positive regarding our experience was handicapped accessibility. From the street, entering the restaurant appeared nearly improbable. We parked in the Bonhomme Parking garage on Level 4. There is an entrance on that level straight into the restaurant! There is a fee to park in the garage, and street level has metered parking. I recommend trying the Kingside Diner for lunch or breakfast.
Tried for the 1st time. The food was ok. I ordered the lumberjack, which is a waffle with sausage and bacon crumbles, cheddar with 2 eggs. I added hash browns. However, they were very thin and fried too long, which made them very hard. Not much crumbles had asked for an additional sausage patty. My husband had the meet me in st louis which is a skillet, and he added grilled jalapeños. Some were grilled, and some were not. He also ordered a pancake on the side, which he indicated was not hot. Service was slow, other than that the atmosphere we very nice and inviting. Will I return, that is up in the air right now.
We went for brunch and were seated quickly. This establishment pprovides dining at an upscale location. Our waitress delivered good service, but nothing to write home about. Our meal arrived swiftly, albeit it was not as hot as the plates it was delivered on. The meal was delicious nonetheless. The wait for Mimosas was longer than expected. I would definitely dine here again. Please keep in mind that a party of six is considered a large party, and a gratuity was included.
The service and atmosphere were really good. Super clean and neat. The service was top notch but never felt like a diner as the name would suggest. It is more of an upscale place with average food and shorter menu items. I ordered fried chicken sandwich and fries and my friend ordered fish and chips. Both of us felt the food was average. Only recommend it if you were looking for a casual place to dine once in a while for a chance of scenery.
Took the family for brunch. We had just a 2 minute wait and the hostess was so nice. The menue was wide and the options all looked great. The chicken tenders were home made, bagles and lox were perfect, and the hashbrowns crispy.Food: 5/5
Good mood, good food. Great experience across the board at Kingside Diner in St. Louis. Nice restaurant with open seating and a spacious bar area. Flat screens TVs are visible from almost every area throughout the restaurant. The music selection was pretty good. Fast and friendly service. Our server Tyler did a great job. Everything was delicious. The drinks were good as well. Definitely dropping by again to try something new on the menu next trip to the Lou.
Went to this kingside diner after going to the one in CWE. This one looks a bit more upscale than the other one. I went for breakfast so I tried the Meat me in St Louie skillet... really good. It is not too big. The service was prompt and really friendly. I like that they have high tables too, beyond the regular choices of just tables and the bar.
This place is always less crowded then the one in central west end, even during Sunday lunch time. However, the environment, quality of food and service were all as good. I’ve been to this place several times and have tried the omelets, fish tacos, sandwiches, etc. Most importantly, the price is very reasonable giving its quality and portion. The coffee is also great. Better than many brunch restaurants that I’ve been to.
All my food was fresh and delicious and we didn’t wait long for anything!! Lattes were perfectly crafted as wellFood: 5/5
