Loved this Omakase experience, what a fabulous treat. Premium sushi for the mid price at $135. There's even better premium pieces for the $165. But if you just want a taste, get the $99 set. If you're a uni lover like me, you must, must get the uni tasting in addition. You won't regret it. My tasting had uni from Hokkaido, Santa Barbara and Maine. So delicious. The smoky uni was just as fabulous.
Went here for my bday, and had a really fun experience. I want to specifically thank the chef ‍ for being so funny, and the host Ash for paying special attention to me. They pay individual attention to detail and have the best jokes - the aura is very calm, relaxing and intimate. They didn’t rush us and we were there for more than 2 hours. Having different omakase experiences i can state that here it is really different.
The most underrated Edomae style omakase in nyc!!! I thought twice before booking since it has a mixed review, but it turned out to be a wonderful place! Everything the chef presented had a high standard, from Zensai/appetizers to sushi. Had a chance to get sea pineapple, which was pretty rare to see in nyc. And the chef had a great selection of uni, including my personal favorite, Kumamoto murasaki. Will definitely return and become a regular, hopefully!
I came here for my birthday and made a great choice! The host/serve was incredibly attentive, friendly, and kind. The chef was on top of it with serving each piece at the perfect time. At the end, there’s a chance to re-order any pieces you particularly liked and the toro was definitely my #1 choice. I also loved the yuzu sake. It was just enough flavor and not overwhelming by any means. Can’t wait to return!
The best Omakase in NYC. Intimate dining experience, 8 seat restaurant. Quality of the fish w was top notch. Service was also excellent. Bravo to the chef for creating an experience such as this one. We will be back
Last week we went in to celebrate our anniversary. We planned to sit outside due to Covid-19, but because of openings, it ended up just being my partner and I, along with one other guest. The host offered us a chance to sit at the Chef table instead of outside to watch and listen to Chef describe each plate while on the other end of the table from the other guest to be safely distanced. We were all carded for ID and proof of vaccine and I felt tremendously safe as everyone wore masks inside and the place was superbly clean. For our anniversary, we did the 10 pc Omakase and after very little coaxing, decided to add a few more of Chef's recommendations. We also added the Sake Pairing. Both the Chef and our Host synced their pairings marvelously! They even gave us complimentary champagne for our anniversary! The photos are only a handful of the entire meal. Everything was exquisite in flavour. The ambience was lovely. And service is one of the best! My only very minor critique is I struggled slightly with the nigiri rice separating on me as I went to grab each piece rather than hold together under slight pressure. To counter it though, Chef is very aware of what fish to place atop of said rice for the nigiri. In particular, the house smoked uni is a delicate smack of flavour to the palate! And the decision to also offer us a local fish piece is such a treat from what one would normally expect to be given as part of the omakase. This is a memorable experience, one that we plan on returning to and enjoying for many years to come!
The sushi is delicious and well timed. We went here for a date night and was not disappointed. The uni was especially inspired and we ordered an additional smoked and un-smoked piece in addition to the Omakase. We were inside and the lighting was really bright. That's the only negative thing I have to say about the ambiance. Otherwise it's a cute spot. It is expensive, but worth it for a memorable date night.
Visited Kintsugi Twice. In short: Decent food. Bad Experience. The waiter last night spilled every single pour of our sake pairing and did not apologize, let along the pour was tiny. Either he forgot his contact or he was high. He also did not get us new glass for different sakes. In the end he splashed our credit cards all over the floor. Again, no apology from him. An omakase chef should be able to control the room. But this chef simply ignored or too busy to care what happens between waiter and customers. This Chef also plays favorites. He only likes to talk to regular customers and explain the sushi. For new customers you only get the name of the fish. You can really feel the attitude change. He also cuts fish in very different sizes. I get sometimes the size change a little based on sushi chef’s observation of guests’ reaction, but this is definitely not the case cuz this chef does not care about a non-regular guest’s experience at all This Chef didn’t even say hello or goodbye to us. How many omakase place in NYC does not greet the guests when they come and leave? The whole place is also not clean. Visually very hectic with all the kitchen paper towel stuffing on the counter. Overall, not recommended for a full-on Japanese omakase experience at this price rangewith sake pairing, after tax&tip 350-400/person. There are a lot other choices in NYC. But if you really don’t care about bad service and chef’s weird attitude and just want to have food, then this is not bad cuz they do serve a lot.
Wanted to like this place. It wasn't bad but it wasn't terribly good either. Sushi was good, we had the omakase 13 course. There was 7 diners including us and one chef. Our first dish didn't get to us until after 35 min after being seated. The chef encourage diners to use their hands, but when you pick up the rice it fell away. It lacked the ambiance of a polished establishment and for the price expected a little more work on the aesthetics. For eg I don't need to see the glad wrap, or dirty tissues used by chef or other kitchen utensils.
We had a reservation for the Soho omakase for dinner and had a great experience with wonderful service from the chef and host. The restaurant only has 8 seats indoors so be sure to make a reservation in advance if you are looking to do an omakase course. Amazing quality sushi, you know when you start with the fatty tuna the only way you can go is up!
