I live in the neighborhood and have been wanting to try this cafe for awhile. Finally pulled the trigger when one of my friends booked on Seated and asked me to join her. We went on a weeknight and were able to get a table outside on the back patio. Great ambiance back there. I was trying to be healthy so I ordered the chicken salad which had all the good things on it (goat cheese, candied nuts, a great balsamic dressing). My friend got the scallops risotto which she loved! Very generous portion of scallops and excellent risotto! Towards the end of the night they started playing some super loud hip hop which totally didn’t vibe with the rest of the ambiance but we found kind of funny. Also it doesn’t seem like they have dedicated servers for tables. We were probably helped by 4 different people. Not a problem at all, just a little strange. All in all a good experience. Would def go back.

An institution in DC, Bookstore and Cafe combo similar to Powell Bookstore in OR, though a bit smaller in size. Open till past 12midnight on weeknights and even later on weekend nights. Visited Thursday late night after a DC Night group tour and despite the late hour and rain, the place had quite a number of customers. Books, souvenir shirts, pins, but alas, no stickers which I wanted. Cafe side service was friendly, quick and our server, Brittany was fantastic! Got the Hickory Wings as app and both my husband and I got the Porker's Brunch. I didn't do justice with mine as I had devoured all the chicken, which I highly recommend. On a cold, windy night, was so happy they had good strong coffee. A slice to-go of the Salted Caramel Vanilla cake, good as well.

Nice store. Distracted, but fairly courteous staff. Relaxed atmosphere. I had a frustrating experience trying to buy a book there and it didn't feel like the staff had any real desire to help. There were extenuating circumstances on their part but the issue would have been easily solved with better planning. It's a cool place if you're looking for that but if you want to buy a book, I recommend Second Story Books. The owner is friendly, engaged and knowledgeable.

Great bookstore that has recently been expanded (at least in the last year or so). Fantastic selection of fiction and literature and has just about everything recent published. I wish the history section was better organized. Unfortunately, the restaurant has declined in both service and quality. In two recent visits the food was at best average but overpriced. Worse, the service was the poorest I've ever experienced in DC. Waitstaff gives impression they'd rather be someplace else or checking their smartphone. There are plenty of other food options in the neighborhood that offer great food and service at a fair price.

This place has a really cool atmosphere, from the cute bookstore to the unique "industrial greenhouse" feel of the dining area. Unfortunately, that's where the compliments stop. I went here for lunch, and although they weren't particularly busy, the service was quite slow, and after my initial drink order, I never got a single refill. On top of that, the food was overpriced and simply not good. I got the crab cake sandwich for $19; standard DC fare, described as being on a brioche bun. What I got was the most bland crab I've ever seen slapped onto the cheapest bun you can buy - literally it was like you went to the grocery store and bought the cheapest buns in bulk, then let them sit out for awhile so they were nice and dry and stale. We ended up with a $65 bill after tip, for one drink, my terrible sandwich, and my partner's mediocre salad. Total rip-off.
