This amazing staff was there for me during the worst time in my life. Professionals committed to excellence who love what they do and are dedicated to the overall wellness of their patients. This place welcomes you no matter what stage of your journey you are in, and the community created by the residents totally supports each and every individual. If you are in need of assistance with mental health or substance abuse issues, this place is the answer.

This is a safe and secure place that nurtures teens during a difficult time in their lives. Many reviews challenge the structure that is provided, but is needed for these teens to heal.

I’ve been out of la amistad for almost a year now, if you have never been to rehab to be honest I do not recommend this place. They kept me there for 3 months which resulted in a bill of 50,000$ and all they did was give me therapy once a week, pretty bad food, I told them I was vegetarian but they still insisted that I eat chicken and beef every day for lunch and dinner, and if I refused I had the option of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (which was not even vegan so if you’re vegan I don’t recommend going here at all) . Really all they did was put me on very strong antipsychotics which I am trying to get off to this day. Only a few staff members were nice, and the only credentials they have to have to work with and counsel mentally challenged or ill people was a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. If you go ESPECIALLY watch out for Ms. Ida; she is very disrespectful and constantly talks about how she doesn’t care about the patients, only about getting paid. All in all, please see a psychiatrist and therapist before getting put in here. If you really need a place to retreat to, I don’t recommend this place BUT being away from the real world for a couple months did help me heal. Best luck to anyone dealing with any sort of issues in their life.

Good program, but some off the staff members (and doctors) treated me unethically and morally wrong. I have a debilitating ANS dysfunction called POTS, after explaining it I was told to “stop being an attention seeker.” I had to use a walker to stand and to get around and carry a big tray during dining time/carry laundry basket... I excepted help that was offered by other patients a few times, which is a no.no there. Then I was told if another patient was seen assisting me they would recommend that I seek treatment elsewhere. Plus “our staff will not be helping you”. For another day they played the game but eventually Baker-acted me. That’s what they do with problem patients- and never let you return. So ya I learn some good mental health stuff for two days but my disability just doesn’t cut it for them. (Of course they made up an ethical excuse to my insurance. lol)

The facility seemed ok until I was being evaluated by the nurse and doctor for the best course of treatment for my PTSD and depression. Towards the end of the interview, certain things started to make me really uncomfortable. The doctor first said that *most* of the therapist were really great and I would be well off with them. Then I asked which would be the best treatment plan for me and they told me that staying in the facility would reap the most benefits the quickest considering my level of depression. This worried me as I was not made aware I would have to admit myself immediately. I did not bring clothes or toiletries and did not arrange for care of my cats, appointments, and other situations I had to handle. I expressed all of this to them and they just looked at each other and offered solutions - such as calling from the facility to move appointments or have my roommate pick up clothes (As though I were a child with no responsibilities). I asked if I could come back the next day and they told me the best option would be to start that same day and also to avoid any issues with insurances... I work with insurance companies and am quite knowledgeable, so I offered a completely rational solution of paying out of pocket and not billing the insurance until I actually admitted myself. Also, my insurance had not provided information as to whether I would need a prior-authorization or how many days I would be covered for (specified by the financial rep from earlier), so what they were saying didn't make much sense. They responded by saying - and I quote - "We don't know anything about the monetary portion since we strictly work with the medical part of your therapy." Soooo, why are you advising me on insurance issues or using scare tactics into getting me to stay that same day? I told them I would have to think about it and they said, "ok," and nothing else. I awkwardly left the room and rejoined my roommate, who was waiting in another room for me, and a lady came in saying that when they spoke with my therapist they understood I would be coming in to admit myself. I told her there must have been some miscommunication because there is no way I could do that today and mentioned how I never received any info about what to bring to the facility and what I couldn't - to which she responded that they should have told me all that before I came in. No one once apologize and the rest of the atmosphere was very negative and threatening...she left the room to call my therapist to make sure it was ok for me to leave... which made me think they would find any reason to keep me there. But I'm not suicidal and there was no reason. So she came back, told me it was ok for me to go, and mentioned there might not be any openings in the next week so that they can't promise me a spot. I left with a packet of info and was advised to call back on the weekend to try to schedule an appointment for next week. I'm obviously not a doctor and this is a lengthy review, but I feel like it is important for me to tell people how they treated me. A mental health professional intimidating and adding stress to someone with anxiety and depression issues instead of being understanding of the situation and wanting me in the best mental state for effective treatment is a BIG RED FLAG. Proceed at your own risk.
