Story

Late one evening, while touring the Mediterranean, we found ourselves dining under the canopy of a lemon grove, drinking garden-fresh lemonade made from the very trees we sat under.

Under the direction of a world-class chef, we have worked tirelessly to not only recreate our experience with an alluring dining atmosphere, but also to achieve insanely good food by using healthier ingredients at an affordable price. With garden-fresh wholesome food and a charming atmosphere among a grove of lemon trees, we’ve created a dining experience that transplants you to a starry night-out on an isle in the Mediterranean.

Fantastic food and great ambiance. Have been here a few times now. This last time we got their Tenderloin Medallions and Lemon Roasted Chicken--both were fantastic. When I came here for a company Christmas lunch, the food was only OK, but more understandable when there are that many dishes coming out at once.

We came here for my wife's graduation dinner. We were surprised when we showed up with all our family that the regular menu sporting moderately priced entrees was replaced with a special, mandatory, graduation day menu with entrees in the $40 range. It was embarrassing since we had a lot of family members not expecting to shell out that much for a mediocre meal. The food is alright and the service is good enough, but I'm distrusting of any business that is so willing to take advantage of its customers in that way.

Just another restaurant that thinks ambiance is an adequate substitute for good food. While it’s not the worst restaurant ever, I gave it one star because I have something against restaurants that think it’s ok to charge people more money for mediocre food because you have cloth napkins. Again, if ambiance is what you’re going for, you’ll probably be fine, because the food is good enough to keep eating, waiting to see if it will get good, until you’re full. I love good food, so I have no reason to go there anymore.

The food is hit and miss. Sometimes it’s great and others not so much. Its a bit pricey for what you get.

Today was my third dining experience at La Jolla Groves and, once again, it was a disappointment.  There was almost nobody in the restaurant, but it took nearly 50 minute for us to get our food.  There were 7 in our party and 2 of us had to wait another 5 minutes after everyone else had been served. Those who already had their meals politely waited for the other two to be served as our food got colder and colder.  Our server was fairly personable, but the person refilling the drinks and clearing the plates was sullen and unresponsive even when we thanked her for refilling our drinks.  The food is very expensive, sparse,  and of marginal quality.  The lettuce in the salad was wilted, the chicken sandwich tasted okay, but it was mostly bun with a very small chicken breast.  The other entree's were tiny servings on huge plates.   I would have written this off as a one-time bad experience, but this is my third (and last) visit to this establishment because each experience was exactly the same - slow service, marginal tasting food, and too little for the price paid.
