Story

La Palma Intercommunity Hospital is a 141 bed acute care facility in La Palma, California, USA. LPH is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services, a hospital management company located in Victorville. PHS was founded in 2001 by Prem Reddy, who acts as its present Chairman of the Board. PHS has operated La Palma Intercommunity Hospital since 2006.HistoryLa Palma Intercommunity Hospital was founded as a general acute care hospital in 1972 and has gone through several ownership changes since its founding. One of the first changes came in 1988 when the hospital's non-profit owners, HealthWest Foundation of Chatsworth, merged their services with another non-profit Southern California healthcare provider, LHS Corp., to create UniHealth America.UniHealth America continued to operate LPH until 1998 when UniHealth faced financial challenges and was acquired by Catholic Healthcare West (CHW).LPH's operation under Catholic Healthcare West was short lived, when the Catholic system divested LPH and another nearby Orange County hospital, Martin Luther Hospital Anaheim, to MemorialCare Health Systems after less than a year under CHW control. At the time, the operators discussed plans to consolidate services of the two hospitals and potential converting LPH to non-acute healthcare services.MemorialCare Health Systems plans for LPH never came to fruition as the Long Beach based non-profit sold the facility in December 1999 to for-profit Vanguard Health Systems, ending LPH's status as a non-profit facility.

The doctors and nurses were nice, but the front desk people were very rude. The lady at the desk made me fill out a form and wait in the lobby for an hour all while I was struggling to breath with a collapsed lung. Additionally, the hospital's patient account representative assured our family that I can be insured so we won't have to pay the full amount. She told us the applying process would take about a month, but its been nearly 3 months now and I am having still having the same issues. The front desk lady was stubborn and refused to let us see the representative lady. On the third visit, the lady simply shrugged and gave a post-it note with a number for Medi-Cal.

I would give this hospital a negative rating if I could. WORST HOSPITAL IVE EVER BEEN TO. DO NOT GO HERE. THEY WILL CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. The ER staff, including my doctor and my nurse, were very kind and although the wait was very long (but I understood since there were people there who needed more attention and care than I did), they took good care of me. But the lady at the front desk was extremely rude. At first, she was nice. When checking in to the ER, she never even asked for my insurance information. Once inside, I asked her if she needed it since she never asked for it. She was hesitant at first and came back with a sketch pad and a pen and told me to write down everything that I think she might need. She then returned minutes later saying that she called my mom's insurance company and said they had no record of her (which is total BS because I had my mom's insurance card with me, which by the way she never asked to see or make copies of). So, my sister called my mom's insurance company and said that they never even received a call from this hospital asking for my mom's insurance information. My sister confronted the woman at the front desk and told her to call again. This was when the woman began to become extremely rude and she and my sister were arguing about bill handling the remainder of the time I was there. This was in October 2016. I received two bills a couple of weeks later. My insurance paid for them in November 2016. And I AM STILL receiving bills from them in April 2017. I just received a call today saying that I need to go to corrections to pay my debt because they said they never received the payment in November, but my insurance said that they paid them in November. I now have to dispute the debt and get this figured out months after I thought this was all over. DO. NOT. GO. HERE.

I’m so disappointed with la Palma Hospital, the supervisors (Buffy de Luna and Lilian) and especially with the Doctor Rachelle J. Douglass). The Nurse, Doctor and supervises were very rude and very unprofessional. It was long horrible experience. I went to the emergency room on 10-6-2017 because my little daughter had a insect inside her ear, and the moment Dr Rachelle arrived I noticed she was in a hurry and angry. She checked her ear and told me she didn’t see anything but wax and then she left so I took the mediscope and checked my daughters ear again but she came back and shouted at me “What are you doing!” So I said (I want to make sure the insect is gone). After she started to try to take the wax out and my daughter starting screaming in pain. She stopped for a bit and then continued again only this time my daughter started crying. Right then I asked her If I can do it instead and she told me “let me do my job!” and she continued to try to clean my daughters ear. My daughter kept crying so i told her be more carful, and she told me “I know what I’m doing” and grabbed the stick continued to try to clean her ear very roughly. It got the point where it was just to painful that my daughter couldn’t take it anymore and asked her to please stop. However the Dr ignored her and instead grabbed my daughters head with her hand and put the stick inside her ear more harder. So i intervened and told her to stop touching my daughter. After that my daughter was in shock and with a lot pain so I told the Dr. to go to school again and you don’t deserve to be a Doctor. I stated that i was going to another hospital but before my daughter and i could leave the room the Dr got in front of the door and blocked us from leaving. She told me to wait and to let her try again but i refused and shouted at her “if something happens to my daughters ear it is going to be your fault.” Shortly after that i went to the front desk and asked for the full name of the Dr and supervisors. I called the supervisor and she told me she was going to call me on Monday. A few moments later my daughter started to vomit in the car, this only scared me more. I was trying to go to another hospital but my daughter told me “ please don’t take me home I’m scared, take me home please”. Still frightened and traumatized from that experience so decided to take her home instead and give her Motrin for the pain. The next day I asked her how she felt and she told me I have pain still felt a lot of pain in her ear and that she felt like she was on an airplane. I ended up calling called the other supervisor and she tell me “oh I’m sorry, I’m going to call you on Monday ok, if she still have pain take her to the hospital.” It is now 10-14-2017 and nobody has called me. My daughter no longer feels any pain but she says she still cant hear well. I want the Hospital do something about the incident that happened with my daughter and to take disciplinary action towards the supervisors for ignoring my complaint and refusing to help me resolve this problem. Especially with Dr Rachelle J Douglas for hurting my daughter and leaving her this horrible traumatic experience!

I am currently in a lot of pain & I came to this hospital & ive literally just been laying in a bed for about 2 hours & no one has helped me out. I'm debating about leaving or staying longer to get the help I need. I could of been laying in my own bed if this was the case but I came to get helped.

I understand that when going to an ER sometimes you have to wait, especially if there are people that require more attention then you. However, when I go in bleeding on your floor from a slicing my hand open and their are no other people in the room with me. Yet all you can tell me is fill out this paper work and to wipe down my insurance cards cause you don't want blood on them? Like are you kidding me!?! I was in there for a total of 2 hours, when it was just me mainly there. The stiches only took about 15min to do, other then that I was just there sitting waiting, don't come here drive a little farther for another hospital, you'll die of waiting here.
