Lake Union Park

Story

Lake Union Park is a 12acre park located at the south end of Lake Union in Seattle, Washington in the South Lake Union neighborhood. The park is owned by the City of Seattle and operated by Seattle Parks and Recreation. The park property was gradually acquired by the City, and the final were transferred from the United States Navy to the City of Seattle on July 1, 2000. After renovation, the current park space officially opened on September 25, 2010.HistoryWhile the property was acquired by the City for the purpose of providing public park space, it was underutilized for a prolonged period due to a lack of attractive park features. Seattle Parks Foundation attempted to address that issue by conducting a campaign to raise the funds needed to substantially improve the park's facilities. The capital campaign goal was $20 million. In addition, the Seattle City Council appropriated $4.228 million in funds to repair the property's bulkhead and $5 million went to the project from the voter-approved 2000 Pro Parks Levy.FacilitiesThe park design is optimized to provide access to water and green space, connect the surrounding neighborhoods, and celebrate the cultural, industrial, and maritime heritage of the city and region. Lake Union Park includes restored shoreline, a pedestrian bridge, a model boat pond, a history trail, a fountain of water jets, a beach for launching boats, a footprint for The Center for Wooden Boats' new Education Center (future facility), a grove of trees, a Great Lawn, footpaths, park benches, and infrastructure that can support large events. Lake Union Park also has a station for the South Lake Union Streetcar, which began operating in late 2007.

Lovely place to have a walk around on a nice sunny day. Sundays are the best, you can go to the Wooden Boat and queue up before 10am to get a free boat ride, or you can pay 12USD to get a 45min boat tour in the "Sunday Ice-cream Cruise". Really worth the visit, it is not only about having a boat ride but also the green around the lake and the geese walking around with their ducklings.

Nice place to visit in Seattle. See amphibious aircraft land and take off! See MOHAI Museum of History and Industry, wooden Boat Museum and more! 👍👍

What an incredible, peaceful, lovely location to sit and watch people, geese, boats and progress. There is so much growth in Seattle - which is the Seattle way since it was settled over a hundred years ago. Lake Union Park serves as the “front yard” to the Mohai- which is a MUST GO museum in Emerald City. Thank you Seattle for providing a park with wide sidewalks for foot traffic...clean water for boat fun...and well landscapes grounds.

We usually go when the water fountains are on in summer. A lot of fun for our kids and us. But the placecan be dirty and a lot of goose poop around.

This park is an oasis in the center of the bustling Westlake and Eastlake area. The view is beautiful and serene. The sidewalks are new and easy for strollers and bicycles, the bridge is finally open again. I love this park for walks on my lunch break and eating outside on a summer day
