Lane's Bakery & Coffee has a long tradition of serving the Madison area with uncommonly delicious treats. We had visited for the first time and the bakery items were very good. Staff was very friendly. Will update after a few more visits.

I grew up a few blocks from the old Lane's when they were up by the lake, and was really glad when they opened back up a couple years ago. The doughnuts etc have stayed the same (aside from the fact that they are now closed on Sundays) and that's just how I like it. They come up with new and seasonal offerings which can be a nice change up, but I really love the single chocolate cake doughnuts and their cherry/apple/blueberry danishes. The other stuff is great also, but those things just take me back to my childhood! Best doughnuts in town... hands down.

This is one of the only places in Madison where you can find a cake with real whipped cream topping! Why is that impressive you ask? Most if not all grocery store cakes use some kind of artificial whipped cream on cakes, real dairy whip cream is superior in flavor and tastes good. They also create beautiful and artistic decorations on cakes and cookies. Finally, the doughnuts, those types you used to get as a kid with the nuts and chocolate made in small batches. True Wisconsin ideas and seasonality makes this bakery special.
