Larchmont Temple Nursery School is a warm and nurturing, play-based preschool that cultivates a connection to Jewish traditions and values.
Larchmont Temple Nursery School is a warm and nurturing, play-based preschool that cultivates a connection to Jewish traditions and values. We believe that children are rich with ideas and teachers use the children’s interests to create an emergent curriculum. The curriculum that evolves is one that is developmentally appropriate, play-based, and project oriented. Teachers focus on the whole child, addressing the needs of children socially, emotionally and cognitively. Families are partners in the work that we do, joining with children and teachers to celebrate Jewish life and learning.
Larchmont Temple Nursery School is licensed by New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Larchmont Temple Nursery School is partnered with Project SEED (Supporting Early Emotional Development). Project SEED is designed to help early childhood educators support young children's emotional development. They are a support to directors, teachers and parents in building strong and successful learning environments for children.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Whether during indoor or outdoor time children use play to reenact experiences, try out different roles and express ideas. This enables them to develop vocabulary, process information and relate to each other as they widen their view of the world surrounding them.
More formally, we offer many avenues of discovery, including science, math, language development, literature, art, music, cooking and dramatic play. Each day, teachers work with their class in a group to increase the children’s understanding of the environment and the world around them. Objects of interest and social interactions become topics of discussion. There are also times when children are encouraged to work and play independently, helping to build self-help skills and gain independence.
Interwoven into our program is a basic introduction to Judaism. As part of the Jewish experience children observe Shabbat and celebrate Jewish holidays. They visit the sanctuary, meet with the clergy, and learn prayers and songs to share with their families.
We believe that child development happens best in a supportive, safe and nurturing environment. We provide that for every child.
