As many times as I have been to Pittsburgh I have never been here until now. It is truly a hidden gem! We almost couldn’t find it but so fortunate we did. Bartender was so friendly and made us the best greyhounds! Beware as they strong. My husband enjoyed his cigar and we absolutely loved the jukebox! Will definitely be coming back every time we are in town.
Old style super-alcoholic drinks. They take pride in getting you hammered. Definitely not for the faint of the heart. I loved their ancient cashier machines, these pieces should be in a museum by now approaching a 100 years old.
Visited during a recent trip to Pittsburgh based on the comments I read. It is as described an excellent bar with a nice selection of cocktails. I only took away one star because I am not a smoker and this place is very much for those who do. Not a knock, just not my speed.
Nice little bar, very unique ambiance. It's a smoking bar so that's both a plus and minus but it does lend a certain feel regardless. Drinks are fairly priced are very strong so you'll get your money's worth
This bar is known for its classic drinks which are very cheap and strong but smooth at the same time. Its a nice cozy place with old school music and ambience.
You won't be leaving this place saying that you got a weak drink. You get your moneys worth. Just be sure you have cash as they do not take cards. Be sure to get one of the cocktails with fresh squeezed juice.
This is a drink I don't mind paying for. Definitely very generous and I'll be sure to return. Zan the bartender is awesome.
My first time here felt like coming home to my local. The bartender was welcoming. The drinks were great. The atmosphere was perfect. I loved the booths because they were comfortable, and the tables were spacious. It's smoker friendly, which may be a drawback for some, but I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to go back.
I found this place through a George Romero scavenger hunt sponsored by Row House Cinemas scene of Two Evil Eyes filmed here. It's truly a place one should not miss if they are in the Shadyside area. The lighting is low and the walls are covered with murals. The staff are attentive even when it becomes busy. Mardi Gras is known for their Greyhounds, which are made with freshly squeezed grapefruit and vodka. All pours are generous, no matter the spirit or cocktail. They are cash only. Be prepared for about $10/drink including tip. It may sound like a lot but you're getting your money's worth.
There aren't too many places like Le Mardi Gras. First of all, it is a historical slice of Pittsburgh. In addition to being historical, the music selection is good, old-school vibes. Mostly leaning towards blues and jazz, there are a lot of gems on the jukebox, you just have to know where to look. The interior is dark and smokey, a great place to relax and be incognito if you want. Second of all, the prices are reasonable and the drinks are heavy no matter what. If your friends are novice drinkers, make sure they know what they're getting into. The only potential downsides are that it is cash only they have an ATM and they allow smoking they sell cigars and cigarettes. If you don't care about smoking or cash only, give this place a try. I don't think this bar is for everyone, but I think anyone can appreciate it.
