The Lightship Overfalls, LV-118, was built in 1938. It is one of only seven in the US open to the public. It is in Lewes, Del., open Memorial Day to Columbus Day.
LV-118 is one of the 17 remaining lightships out of 179 that served to protect ships for over a century. It was stationed off the coast of Long Island, Boston Harbor and Martha's Vineyard. In 1973, it retired to Lewes, Delaware, the first town in the first state.
The Overfalls Foundation restored and preserves the lightship. Its mission is to honor, teach and preserve our rich maritime history.
