Story

Lila Delman Real Estate, founded in 1964, was started by Lila Delman, an independent and spirited woman with an exquisite eye for fine properties, art and antiques. With vigorous determination, Lila built the company by leading a group of highly talented professionals, setting the highest standards and polishing both her business skills and growing collection of arts and antiques. Over four decades, Lila Delman Real Estate has continued to champion and celebrate the area's beauty, architecture and history through its business and community involvement. In turn, its reputation has grown as a company that offers a discerning eye and break-through presentation strategy for fine homes around Coastal Rhode Island.

The company is now run by Melanie Delman and John Hodnett. Melanie is a second generation real estate executive who took over the helm in 1988 from Lila, her mother. Melanie is well recognized as an expert in the area of luxury brokerage and has personally participated in a substantial portion of Rhode Island’s record setting sales. John joined the company in 1991 and is now the principal broker of the firm. John graduated summa cum laude with a BS from Northeastern University and earned his MBA from Columbia University with Beta Gamma Sigma honor society distinction. John previously worked as a CPA and as a securities analyst, gaining extensive experience that he puts to use on a daily basis. John has also been recognized consistently as a multi-million dollar producer. With John and Melanie's guidance, the company has grown dramatically.


Lila Delman Real Estate now has six offices: Newport, Narragansett, Providence, Jamestown, Watch Hill and Block Island. Today, Lila Delman Real Estate is a committed member and contributor to preservation, historic and community organizations which are designed to preserve and build on the rich heritage of Rhode Island's coast and landmarks.
