They offered me $700 dollars for a colorless 1 1/4 carat diamond.

Did not have a good experience.  Took a wedding ring to get resized, said they could do the work.  After consulting with many other certified jewelers, found out that the type of ring I had could not and should not be resized.  Definitely some dishonesty in the shop.  The whole experience seemed very shady.  I would not recommed unless you are very well versed in the jewelery realm, otherwise you could very possibly be taken advantage of.

I have a friend who buys gold and silver and who runs down LIttle John but you know what? While my friend is rattling on and on about stuff like he's the genius of the ages, and explaining all about how he can't buy this'n'that from me, it's junk, I can take it over to Little John and he'll look at it, give me an offer, and buy it. No BS. I've sold him silver in the past and been happy, and will take some silver by there tomorrow. His store is also NEAT to look in, it's a sort of Old Western museum. He also buys and sells coins, and has a nice collection of them there, whether it's an old V nickel or a Krugerrand, you can get it there. 

Learn the value of your metal before taking it to ANY gold buyer, and be open to giving Little John a try.
