Story

We welcome you to the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society (L-AGS). Genealogy - also known as Family History Research - is a worldwide hobby pursuit. Our society serves the Tri-Valley cities of Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin in the southeastern portion of Alameda County, in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area of California.

L-AGS was founded in 1977. We cordially help people of all skill levels to improve their knowledge and understanding of their ancestors and their connections to historical events. Although our name says Livermore-Amador, our members provide expertise in nearly all aspects of family history exploration from 17th-century colonization through research of twentieth-century immigration from all ancestral continents.

We have monthly meetings the Second Monday of every month with guest speakers from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Congregation Beth Emek, 3400 Nevada Court, Pleasanton No need to be a member to come, but we’d certainly love it if you did!

We also have several sub groups for more one on one help. One example is an experienced researcher will be at the Pleasanton Library every Wednesday at 10:00 am – 1:00 PM.

This group is absolutely awesome. I wanted to start researching my family history and didn't know where to start. My mom had mentioned she saw a booth from this company at the alameda county fair and thought they might be a good place to get help. I checked out their website and say that they offered free 1 on 1 help at the Pleasanton Library. I went and it probably saved me months of learning how to properly research my family records and what the best tools and websites are to use. They did this all for free! They also have monthly meetings with featured speakers. While not required; consider supporting them with a $20 donation to become a member. They are a 501(c)(3) charity.:)

L-AGS was the first genealogy society I joined. I hesitated because I don't have any ancestors in this area, but I'm so glad I joined. The meetings feature top-notch speakers and the members and board are filled with great information and help.
