New Patient appointments are so important as they establish a baseline regarding your current oral health and the state of your gums and teeth. During out New Patient Appointment, you have time to sit down and visit with Dr. LoPour to discuss your concerns and needs regarding your overall smile and oral health. Dr. LoPour will perform a Full Mouth Comprehensive Exam. While a good oral examination can tell a lot, the addition of a set of Full Mouth Digital X-rays offers a look at your teeth below the gum line, in between hard to see areas as well as inside the root of the tooth itself. By diagnosing problem areas of decay and or fractures at their earliest possible stage, only minimal treatment and minimal cost are involved. You will also see one of our exceptionally skilled registered dental hygienists for a dental cleaning during your new patient appointment. Over the years dental hygiene has evolved and so have the goals for cleaning your teeth. We use a combination of a tunable ultrasonic scaler and a hand held scaler to gently and effectively clean your gums. Experts today agree that the best results for nonsurgical periodontal therapy are achieved by a combination approach of using both power ultrasonic scalers and hand instruments. Depending on the health of your gums at your appointment, an additional cleaning may be needed to help remove hard deposits, known as Calculus or tartar, which can collect and attach the tooth and root surfaces. If not removed, your gums can continue to have inflammation and infections eventually leading to periodontal disease and even loss of teeth.
