Story

When Sergio and Mary Suarez decided to open Los Comales-Melrose Park in 1998, they had many experiences that helped them draw on the “best of the best” to create their restaurant concept. Los Comales-Melrose Park and Los Comales-Elgin embody the essence of multi-culturalism by selecting the finest features of Mexican and American community and traditions to create their delicious, authentic food.



As a boy in Mexico, shining shoes by the age of 6 to help support his family, Sergio never thought he would own a taqueria. However, his work ethic proved to be the key to finding success. Camerino Gonzalez – owner of the original Taqueria Los Comales – recognized Sergio’s intellect and perseverance and approached Sergio about opening a restaurant. Through other prosperous small business ventures, Sergio’s business instincts and work ethic prepared him for becoming an effective restaurateur. Sergio found the ideal location for his newest venture: Melrose Park. Melrose Park was growing in its diversity and was missing a family restaurant that served high quality, authentic Mexican food.



The Suarez Family has expertly paired both American and Mexican influences into their restaurants. The flavors of the food are authentic to Mexico while the ingredients are the finest available in America.
