First time here, after a glowing recommendation. Sadly, the nachos that I ordered during Happy Hour was horrible - the queso was watered down. After telling the server he said “I’ll take it off your bill, because you are no longer welcome here.” Ok, so it’s not like I’d be back and he did me a favor, but the atmosphere in Adams Morgan is great and was super disappointed about this service, and watered down queso. I would have come back for the HH hour Coronas.
Wow, the food here was really really good. They don’t hold back the flavor. The quality was excellent and while was a little more Mexican than your usual Tex Mex style place. Drinks were really good too. I enjoyed the beautiful ambiance as well. Service was slow but it’s a family run place and they didn’t have a ton of staffFood: 5/5
Popped in for some quick steak tacos to go. They came out within 10 minutes. As a food critic for myself I tend to be disappointed by the lack of authenticity with tacos in DC. These were SO GOOD! Like literally they taste like a spot on the side of the road in Mexico. Spices were amazing, not a single complaint. Only that I now want to order more.
LA native here. I just don’t understand the 4.4 rating. When I came in there was no one upstairs to greet me so I had to go downstairs to the cantina. Two other people came in and had to do the same thing. Why have a host station to greet people ? Then, service was slow because the kitchen is downstairs. Flavors were good but the chicken in the mole poblano was dry. The tortillas and guacamole were good but the beans were slurpy. I came home smelling like a Mexican diner. $35 for lunch? . IMO, probably a better place to get a drink than a meal.
I was looking for something quick to eat and realized I haven't had any Mexican food in DC. This isn't the place. The rice and beans were cold, and I ate 2 out of the 3 tacos.Food: 2/5
The food and drinks are amazing. As a Mexican and LA native, I didn’t think I’d find authentic Mexican food in DC. The pambaso red torta was better tasting than some that I’ve had in Mexico City. The asada torta was solid, but man that pambaso is to die for. Still thinking about it. For drinks we tried the Jamaica with mezcal, it was very refreshing, not too sweet, and perfect kick of mezcal at the end. Overall I’d say the food was great in quality and quantity for the price. The service was awesome , our waiter Francisco Javier is a little slice of heaven. Super conversational and friendly. Give that man a raise!
I loved the food. Honestly, the flavors were authentic, very nice server. Everything was amazing and very freshFood: 5/5
Great food and service! I was amazed by the portion of the fajitas. I just worked out and was super hungry, and I still could not finish them.Food: 5/5
Very cute patio to spend time with friends but overall underwhelmed. The service was difficult it seemed one guy stationed inside with everyone outside. The food was not bad for DC prices but was lackluster. It needs a little more flare but overall meh.Food: 3/5
As someone with Mexican roots who is from Texas, I’ve been waiting for this spot to open for a few weeks now, so when I saw that it was open, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to order takeout. My order was done within 15-25 minutes. When I walked in for pick up, there wasn’t anyone at the entrance except for a family of customers who were already seated and dining. A few minutes after standing around, a young man came up and asked for my name and order. Shortly after, he delivered my order and I went on my way. For context, I ordered an asada taco, an asada sope, and a chicken sope. The second I opened the taco box, I was surprised to see a homemade tortilla two to be exact. The portion of meat was on the smaller side and had a few fatty pieces, but overall tasted well marinated. My one complaint is that I wish they would’ve added more cilantro to the taco. It was sparse and affected the potential of the flavor. The sopes were similarly good, though they were unfortunately completely soggy by the time I got home. I wish they were a little thicker to be able to hold it while eating it. As they stand now they resemble a huarache more than a sope. I will note that I appreciate the pinto beans they add to the sope. They’re not refried beans, though, so don’t go in anticipating refried beans on your sope. Apart from the minimal details I mentioned, I’d recommend this place to anyone searching for a good, authentic Mexican food. By far, this is the best proper Mexican restaurant I’ve tried in the DMV. I echo everyone’s sentiments in the reviews regarding how DC has been needing a place like this one. Forget all the other establishments in the area, please make this spot your go-to if you want authenticity. They have a lot of group seating so bring your friends and family with you.
