About

Nonprofit organization, bookstore, and networking center for writers, academics, artists, and fans of author H.P. Lovecraft. Organizers of NecronomiCon Providence.

Story

The Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council is a nonprofit organization and bookstore based in Providence, Rhode Island that serves as a networking center for scholars, authors, artists, and fans of the Weird literary world, inspired in part by Providence author H. P. Lovecraft and expanded upon by so many others. We strive to foster a vibrant and diverse global Weird fiction and art community, and to provide a home for this community here in Providence.

We organize public educational events, such as our flagship NecronomiCon Providence – a biennial convention that explores the works of Lovecraft and other Weird authors and artists via talks, panel discussions, readings, and workshops. We also present events throughout the year, including lectures, walking tours, art exhibits, film screenings, plays, and concerts to highlight the worldwide weird and showcase Lovecraft's hometown of Providence – a city that he honored and immortalized in the minds of countless individuals around the world.

Mission

The Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council strives to firmly anchor the literary fame of author H.P. Lovecraft in his hometown of Providence, and thus serve as a nexus for fans of the Cthulhu Mythos and practitioners of Weird fiction and art around the world.

Products

Our new and used book selection includes titles by and about H.P. Lovecraft; weird fiction, science fiction and fantasy, supernatural and horror, classic lit; and nonfiction books on subjects that influenced Lovecraft: astronomy, cosmology, archaeology, lost civilizations, New England history and folklore, biology, science, expeditions, mythology, the occult, and the curious.

We are proud to be the official East Coast consulate for the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, and carry many of their items. We also sell NecronomiCon T-shirts and merch, weird art and prints from local and international artists, tote bags, and various oddities and curiosities.

Cashier not only steered me towards general Lovecraft knowledge but also pointed out some of his personal favorites. Much appreciated.

My birthday gift to my fiancé this year was a trip to Providence and a tour of ask things lovecraft. So naturally I decided to make this the last stop before we flew back. I SHOULD HAVE MADE IT OUR FIRST STOP. The guy there was amazing and obviously a fan himself, which is always a bonus when you go to places like this. The store was gorgeous, I wish I could get these guys to decorate my house. And it won't break your bank buying stuff from them. Which usually niche stores like that will.
