While visiting Providence, as usual, I set out on an explore. For books. Not just any books, but rather old books, I'm sorry pardon my antiquarian slip, rare books. I simply used the not so antique method of Google to locate nearby bookstores, and came across M&S Rare Books Inc.. With the location listed I set gps to 245 Waterman St. and with sense of elation like that of Burgess Merideth in that fateful old scene in The Twilight Zone, I sang to myself the words books, books, books! ( Too much? Just trying to set the mood here. ) However, as I walked through the door of M&S, my reading glasses were crushed under the withered and wore out shoe of whom I can only imagine is a faint relative of Uriah Heep. I was told that I could not browse nor shall I even be welcome without an appointment in the condecending manner that would make Ebenezer cringe. ...ok, enough already. I am a collector. I adore all that is vintage, the rough cut, type-set, the smell, ahhh the smell that ages with pages. Sad part is now that I have visited your website, I have found several books that I would have gladly purchased that day had you just said hello. Perhaps I wasn't dressed accordingly, was I profiled because of my Yamaha T-Shirt? I relish in Charles Dickens. I have many works that include a 1890 1st ed Christmas Carol with intro by Kitton, a 1837 1st ed of Pickwick Club, and would loved to have picked up your copies of 1839 Nicholas Nickleby and the Martin Chuzzlewit. But...I didn't know I needed an appointment, I just stopped by with my wife. This was on June 28th noonish. Shame we had to run into such arrogance. We spent quite a sum of money that day, chances are you would have got most of it. We found several other bookstore who were willing to let us browse and they gladly accepted our money. They even said hello. Robert
