Really nice grounds and manor. It was our second visit, this time for the Halloween Murder Mystery - it was really good. Most of the actors were amazing. We'd highly recommend it. They had also spooky installations throughout the grounds on the may to the mansion. Plus there were some quite entertaining sculptures. Minus one star - I wish it was a bit cheaper, especially for little kids.

Went on the tour with my wife. I needed to step out into the foyer for literally a minute. I was told if I left I would not be permitted back in and she stood there trying to collect my lanyard. Very unprofessional and not how to deal with a paying customer. We were literally 5 minutes into the tour. It was no interruption to our very small group or a problem whatsoever. She made it far more of a deal then it really was. My request easily could have been accommodated. Zero stars.

Great place to spend a few hours or a day. 60+ acres to walk around plus a Hudson River trail off the grounds. My wife and I toured the mansion. It was $18 per person and took about an hour. Guide was very informative and answered all questions. One of only a few mansions left from millionaire row on the Hudson. The bowling house was neat too see and the greenhouse was first of its kind and housed tons of species. And the Rose garden was beautiful and fragrent. If your in the area, make sure you stop here.

Pretty amazing mansion, used as an external set for the film, Dark Shadows (and apparently many other films and TV shows). Among its owners was rail baron, Jay Gould, perhaps the wealthiest American of his day. The tour guide we had, an older, retired airline pilot, was great, BUT the one MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT was the young girl (whose job it was to shush our party out of each room and into the next room to stay with our tour. If you lingered even a few seconds to take a photo, she would sternly demand you moved on. I once replied in a very friendly, non-contentious tone "OK, for sure, just let me take this picture - everything here is so beautiful." Instead of smiling and say, "Sure, thanks for keeping things moving," she responded nastily and demanded again that I move on. I guess I can't completely judge her, she may have some special need that caused her to act so socially inappropriately, but it was like having a thorn in my side throughout what was otherwise a decent tour.

This is a beautiful piece of history. The tour guide was interesting and informative. My one disappointment was that the organization seemed to think that Halloween decor was necessary. I believe that it detracted from the beauty and history of the estate. Why put gaudy, tasteless pieces next to exquisite art items? So ugly!
