The Mahaska County Outreach is a non-profit thrift store that has helped the community for over 30 years.
Mahaska County Outreach is an organization that has helped those in need in the community for over 30 years. Our primary mission is to provide clothing and other items to members in the community that need them. Deb DeJong is the store manager and she has the help of three employees and 10 volunteers. Each month the store does a benefit called a bag sale, customers may fill up a bag for a set price and all proceeds to a specific organization. The bag sales started out as a one day event that has now increased to a two day event, which increases the profits given to the organization. Mahaska County Outreach has a board of 11 community members who determine which organizations receive financial support from the monthly bag sales. These organizations include: Birthright, Special Olympics, Mahaska County Free Clinic, Crisis Intervention Services, Agency on Aging, Summer Youth Lunch Program, Ecumenical Cupboard, Hospice Serenity House, End of the Month Meals, Salvation Army, and the YMCA. The Mahaska County Outreach donates over $12,000 annually to these organizations along with other Mahaska County non-profit organizations. By shopping at the Mahaska County Outreach, your money helps individuals in need, as 100% of the profits stay in Mahaska County.
