We waited about an hour and a half to be seated on 10/15/17, my birthday. There are always long lines and long waits here on weekends, but a competent hostess or host will give a reasonable estimate of wait times. At first giving our name we were told “20 minutes”. We asked again after 20 minutes and now it was another “20 minutes”. So we waited another 20 plus. We return again, this time, excuses about people sitting too long because of the weather... another “15 minutes” now. We wait and wait and wait. We ask again, now it’s maybe ANOTHER 10-15 minutes. Are you kidding? We wait again at least another 15-20. Then the hostess starts giving us, and everyone waiting some attitude. Not so great. We finally sit down. The hostess with the ‘tude seats us bit doesn’t offer us drinks as she did other tables. Then we wait for the server. As we watch other tables, seated after us, have their drink order taken by our server. We wait another 5+min and finally start staring the hostess and server down. Drink and food order was taken. Coffees all around. Not too long after the coffees arrive and the server breaks a cardinal rule of serving: grasping the mug by the top lip, placing his unclean hands right where my lips need to go. Not hygienic. Yes, the food is fresh, home-made and tasty but we felt like we being taken for granted and taken advantage of on this occasion. A hostess absolutely should know when wait times are 90 minutes and not tell customers 20.

Best breakfast in town. Hands down. Wait staff is friendly and attentive always despite that typical diner hustle and bustle. Food is top notch, even the 2$ breakfast special. Expect a wait! Plan for it. It's worth it

Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning after a snowstorm, which is the only reason we were able to get seated right away. The locals tell me there's normally a wait (at 7:00 in the morning) and I can see why. The food was great, the coffee was delicious and the staff was cheerful and friendly. I only get to New Paltz once or twice a year but I'll be sure to return to Main Street Bistro.

Food was really good and reasonably priced. Fair amount of vegetarian options which is very appreciated. Only complaint was the service. Friendly enough, but a but absent. No one really came to see how we were doing and it was difficult to get our check. We thought we'd get better service at the counter, but it seemed to be just the opposite. Would still definitely give them another try if we are ever in the area again, but i think we'll get a table next time.
