Thank you for visiting the Manatee County Public Library System Facebook page. The purpose of this website is to share photos, video and information of public interest in Manatee County with our residents, businesses and visitors. The County’s intent is not to create a public forum, but to maintain a moderated online discussion directly relating to topics posted by the County that is appropriate for all citizens to read.

Like telephone booths, libraries have been made obsolete by the Internet and smart phones. From the comfort of our homes we have access to more information than we would have access to by going into a library building. Libraries in this county cost tax payers 10's of millions that could be better spent on other more critical needs in the county. The Millennial generation is larger than the baby boomer generation and use their smart devices for their news, purchases, and magazines. This generation doesn't subscribe to news papers, books, magazines or go to stores. Its time to phase out these expensive obsolete dinosaurs.

I go to two of the Bradenton, Florida libraries on a weekly basis and have found the resources and staff to be exceptional. The biggest comment I have is that the staff encourages the utilization of the resources.... unlike a lot of libraries in which there is a " let's keep things nice, clean and ultimately unused". A library should be open to all, welcoming and a safe place to engage minds with a variety of resources! Great job Bradenton staff and volunteers!

This library is amazing! The Central Library has helpful and friendly staff. They also have a secondhand book store on the main level that has great prices if you'd like to buy from there. I frequently visit the library and always enjoy my visits.

I have had similar experiences with the library Nazi in palmetto. My husband, who is a stay at home dad, offered to pay my library fees. Seventy five cents worth, being paid by my spouse whose drivers license has the same address as mine on file and they seriously would not let him pay!!!!! I was simply blown away. He was not asking for personal information or rechecking out, he was PAYING A FINE! A separate event 8 months later, reserved book from the main library to be picked up at the Palmetto library. Again, I'm working and my stay at home husband offers to pick it up for me and make my life that much simpler. He has a dl with same last name, same address and his own library card. They refused to let him check it out. UNBELIEVABLE. Evidently they believe they are the NSA and they are guarding national secrets! When I called and asked a supervisor to please call me and explain the policy that could possibly be causing this ridiculousness, he could not be bothered to return the call. Way to go library of the year. Evidently the very large librarian salaries are going to there heads!
