I am a fairly frequent visitor to Sarasota from the UK and one of the first things my husband and I do on our arrival is to renew our temporary membership to this library. Of course this gives us access to all Sarasota County Libraries and all for $15. We are consistently impressed by the scope and depth of the catalogue as well as the pleasant atmosphere created by helpful staff. We also appreciate the volunteer bookshop which offers excellent value for money. The library service is a credit to Sarasota County.

the facility itself is nice. The patrons, not so much. I wanted a place to study where I wouldn't be distracted by stuff at home, so I came here and it's filled with tourists holding incessant conversations at full volume, people using their phones, and a vacuum which has been running non-stop for 45 minutes. On a Tuesday Afternoon, no less. I can't imagine what it'd be like on a weekend. The walls are rock or hard plaster, and there is next to no sound-dampening material so all of these noises echo and magnify. Rather disappointing,

Not sure if I’m here on an off day or what, but the amount of noise is astounding. People talking at full voice in every corner, cell phones ringing at high volume (and being answered!), one person was even playing music on their cell phone. I was hoping for a quiet place to study on my lunch hour, but thinking a restaurant would be less distracting.

I'd like to respond to Jacob's comment. What part of "We are now closed" is not clear? There are loud-speaker announcements starting 30 minutes, again at 15, 10 and 5 minutes before closing time. I feel that is ample time to make a final item selection and check out, or gather one's possessions and vacate the public computer areas or meeting and study rooms. The computers automatically shut off at quarter to the closing time. Why people remain staring at them boggles the imagination. There is ample signage and notice of hours of business and rules of conduct. It is a public building, but common sense, manner and a library voice will get you a lot more than purposefully seeing how long you can make the staff stay after they are no longer being paid for the time. They have been there all day, serving the public, with much patience and dedicaton, and a smile on their faces. Please be kind to them.
