Story

Marquand Park is a 17acre arboretum and recreational area located in Princeton, New Jersey. It contains walking paths, a baseball field, and attractions for children such as a sandbox and a play structure.HistoryMarquand Park was originally the property of the Princeton University professor Judge Richard Field, who bought 30acre of farmland in 1842 for his personal estate. Fields and others began developing the land as an arboretum, and its development continued under Susan Brown, who acquired the land in 1871, and under Princeton University Professor Allan Marquand, who acquired the property in 1885.In 1953, 17acre of the land were given to Princeton borough by the Marquand family, and in 1955 a non-profit foundation was created to care for the park. Under the care of the Marquand Park Foundation, over 100 new species and trees of shrubs have been donated to the park or purchased by the foundation for it.Notable treesEight of the largest trees of their species recorded in New Jersey can be found in the park. Other well-known trees there include a dawn redwood, a critically endangered species which was thought to be extinct until a specimen was discovered in Japan in 1945, and a threadleaf Japanese Maple, which is well known for the corkscrew-like shape of its trunk and branches. (Photographs of the Japanese Maple can be found here.)

This park is small and quaint. Huge sandbox for little kids but whats really nice about it is its beautiful grounds. A great placefor a run or a bike ride. I enjoy strolling the park and feeling like I'm so far away from everything even though it's right around the corner!

Great place for kids. There's a sand pit with lots of toy trucks inside. Reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it was covered in leaves and I wonder how often it's maintained.

This is a beautiful park for little kids and families. Quiet and warm. Has toys for kids to play. And a baseball field. The trees are incredible

This local park has 17-acres of greenery and recreation areas. Our favorite feature of Marquand Park is the dump truck sand pit. We've heard that families donate used toy trucks and vehicles, which get added to the giant sand pit for all to enjoy! My boys have been enjoying this park for the last three years since we moved to the Princeton area. You can host birthday parties here, though it would be wise to reserve the few picnic tables that are on-site. Please note: In order to reserve with the Princeton Park District, you have to be a Princeton resident with a valid Princeton mailing address.
