Ran there special for my kids shoes after work as they are one of the few stores around with stride rite shoes.  Tried to get there before the listed closing time of 6:30pm.  Actually go there at 5:50pm the sign on the door said they were open until 7pm.  The store was closed.  Not easy to get there with two 3 year olds after a long day of work and day care.

Bottomline: They had sold me a prior used and defective right shoe, but instead of simply crediting my $189 purchase back as I requested, they offered store credit only. When I didn't want such a large store credit, and because the matter was entirely of THEIR doing, they opted to let me walk out feeling cheated- never to return. This is how they treated me after almost 25 years of purchasing at this local store for myself and my children.

The details: I wore a $189 pair of shoes roughly 4 times - when the inside of the right one totally lifted up. When the store was unable to properly glue it down and returned it to me all bumpy, I learned from the salesman that it had been prior tampered with and adjusted for another customer. I requested a new pair. Unable to locate my size, they refused to credit my charge card offering me only a large store credit that I did not want. I refused this as I should never have been sold a $189 pair of shoes that was prior tampered with or defective in the first place!! 

Summary: Why buy local when online and the local shopping mall retailers often offer better prices, a larger selection and in my experience definitely better customer service. I am still shocked at what has happened and have just never experienced this in any store - local or not.
