Sure there are some good teachers but the majority of them aren't very good. Especially in the math section (mostly Geometry and any Algebra as well as Calculus). The only thing good in this school might be the scenery, those good teachers that are usually amazing, and maybe some of the dual enrollment offers they have. Otherwise though, this school isn't the best. I'd rank it at a D at most. The students tend to be disrespectful and just generally obnoxious, the baseball team isn't good and yet it's the most funded program in the school, the clubs aren't really incorporated in the school as much as they can be, the uniform is unnecessarily picky (and expensive! Those jackets aren't cheap especially when you have siblings!), they're generally cheap people, and this year especially, the students are over loaded with assignments. I mean I get the point in homework but there is such a thing as too much. Not to mention the no cell phone in the hallways rule is ridiculous, and the lunch isn't very good either (like at all. I barely eat the lunch they offer). Not to mention there aren't any locker rooms or lockers so if you have AP's then say hello to scoliosis and goodbye to the feeling in your arms. And the bathrooms are sometimes occupied by people changing into their P.E uniforms or changing out of them. It's horrible if you need to use the bathroom. Look, if you're staying here temporarily then you're good. But if you're looking for a school you can actually survive in or not have to pray that you'll get that one good teacher, then go to a different school. Especially for your last two years of high school. I'm a tenth grader in this school and I've always been very diligent with my school work. Usually if the teacher isn't teaching me, then I look for other sources. But to have to do that with most of my classes is ridiculous. They say it's to "prepare us for college" but to do that you have to ease into it. You don't just bombard us with "I don't care"'s and "Unit test tomorrow! Good luck!" after barely teaching the subject at all. I'm still going to go through with the classes I have now but I don't see the point in unnecessary stress. Also, the teachers can be very unprofessional. From ranting about their own personal issues and making the class their therapist to literally giving us a one hour speech about how we're dumb and don't know what true suffering is. That was a literal speech I got several times last year with one specific class. And everything is expensive especially if you're doubling in sciences. $50 band fee if you don't have your own instrument ($10 if you do), $10 - $15 lab fees for every science class, $15 - $20 club fees for the Honors Society clubs (most are usually $5 - $10) and have fun becoming a salesman for the rest of the year in quite a few sports clubs (ahem, volleyball). Point is, don't waste your time. Go to a different school. I know I've made that choice. And I know parents aren't too thrilled with this school either but that's not up to me to comment about. I'm just a student who's actually attended here (and still is unfortunately). The education for middle school isn't all that great either.

As said in the other reviews about the school, yes it is very strict. Reason being, it's called a "college prep school" . The school has given me many great opportunities, such as taking high school courses while only being in the seventh grade and being able to learn several different languages. Overall, the school is a clean and safe environment. Teachers and Staff: The teachers are amazing. They help me with any questions that I have and make sure it's almost impossible to not be able to contact them. The amount of homework is somewhat stressing, but isn't every school like that? The teachers are very understanding and give second chances. Some teachers, the more lenient ones, allow us students to sit wherever we please, and only certain classes would we have assigned seats, due to the class having bad behavior. The staff, on the other hand, is more complicated. Most of the staff speaks only Spanish, which is a major problem for those who are not bilingual. Other than that, the staff is amazing and is very helpful. Students: I, a person who isn't very social, can't give you much information on the students. Although I do observe, I can tell you one obvious thing: the students that are in regular are not really mature, whereas the kids in advance are more mature and can actually deal with important topics such as politics, and the matters that are going on with this world. I have had some conversations with the kids in regular, they seem to be oblivious to others' feelings. Although the same thing can be said for almost all kids, it seems like have half of the students at Mater Lakes don't know what manners are. Yet, there are also some really helpful students at this school. Whether it's getting directions, or asking to borrow a pencil, the students are usually very kind. It all really depends on your attitude and which crowd you're hanging out with. Classrooms and Security: If you are wondering whether on not to place your child in this school because you don't know if it's safe enough- do it. There are more security guards than I can count, and all of them don't slack off. The classrooms (depending on the grade. 6th graders are stuck in the portables, which have very small hallways and can make it difficult to get to class) are very nice. The desks are clean, and some are brand new. Each classroom comes with a projector and a whiteboard. Some classrooms have Promethean boards, but very few. The classrooms are cleaned every day after school by the janitors, and let me tell you, they clean it spotless. Overall thoughts: The school is a great place for learning and growth. It IS a college prep school, so it may be stressing, but overall, it is an amazing school, and I plan on continuing my education here until I graduate.

over all one of the best years of my life ! :) to be completely honest it was lots of fun but some of the teachers were a little rude and took any little thing that the students out of proportion. Mrs.Morales was my math teacher and was extremely rude and unfair she failed me because she said that she did not like my attitude. other than that the school is great. great people, students and staff. please send your children here you wont regret it ! :)
