Prior to 1937 streetcars operated in Michigan City. Post World War II public transportation was provided by several bus companies. In 1955 the City of Michigan City took control of the public transportation by forming the Michigan Municipal Coach. In 2008 Michigan City Muncipal Coach was re-branded as Michigan City Transit.
