Hands down this place is the BEST food in town. Definitely worth the shot if you're in the area and I promise you won't be disappointed. Staffs are really friendly and the food is just amazing. In my 3 days of stay I had visited this 3 times twice for breakfast and once for dinner and no matter what you order they know how to cook it right. Must try the Nutella French toast. They make it so good that it will make you drool 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting.
Love the look vibes food and service in this place. On my first visit I had the buttermilk pancakes with bacon and egg on the side with freshly squeezed orange juice which is amazing! And a decaf . On my second visit I went for the 2piece chicken and waffle with bacon and cheese! Not forgetting my glass of OJ, I have never had a tastier breakfast. Highly recommend this diner. It is busy and there were times where a line formed but staff worked through seating quickly.
Nice spot decorated for Halloween since we went in mid-October. Classic table jukeboxes still exist but do not work. Great mimosa drink specials. Food was excellent and fast but our waiter failed to check on us and we had to ask the bus boy to locate him three times. Then again we waited for the check for over 15 minutes. It was an online check out process so he really could have left the check at any point. Go for the food and the famous name but definitely not the service.
A 1950 setting restaurant that serves delish decent American breakfast. Enjoyed the breakfast and hot cup of coffee. Server are prompt to take your orders, but could be a little slow to get your coffee refilled as they are lacked of staffs. Overall, the dinning experience is good. Will patronize again.
i came here since i am staying nearby and i wanted an easy dinner spot. the menu is pretty varied which is nice, mostly standard diner fare. i decided to stick with some buffalo wings and fries and both items were great. my friend also said the spaghetti and meatballs was really nice. the penguin milkshake was super delicious too! staff were friendly and we had a great experience.
This diner has a really wonderful atmosphere, with classic 1950’s decor, design, and an actual pay-by-song Jukebox playing the oldies but goodies. Unfortunately, the food leaves much to be desired. Likely part of the issue is that they have an impossibly large menu selection, and their food is probably all frozen and just reheated. Our order is spaghetti and meatballs, for example, had meatballs that were literally too hard to cut into. They were tasteless and obviously frozen for a very long time… But, honestly, you would not come here for the food, but just for the atmosphere. They are a bit pricey as well, but then they are in the middle of downtown San Francisco.
Well yes it is retro and old charm vibe, no complain about the ambience. Food though, very mediocre. Got grilled cheese with tomato soup, fish and chips, did not feel fresh. Could be a good spot for breakfast
Dined at the Mel's location on Mission. The food was good, normal diner fare. I was disappointed that the buttery, delicious fries they had back in the day were replaced by regular shoestring fries. They were wonderfully crispy though. The wait staff are very busy, but available as they were waiting on a large family group with kids. The restaurant was busy around 1030-1100, but our order arrived to our table very quickly. This location was very clean and had a nice diner atmosphere, especially if you sat on the counter seats. I would visit this location again next time I'm visiting the city.
Variety platter as an appetizer was okay but then you figure out that the "marinara" for your fried cheese also doubles as the tomato soup is a little disappointing. The bacon on the wedge salad was a little too cooked. The one plus was the fountain Coke that hit the spot as it almost always does .Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: Yes
Amazing breakfast spot! Always busy from what I have seen but never a wait. Coffee is fantastic and the servers are very pleasant. Highly recommend when you are in the area no line up, like some places on Geary. Very 50’s look and feel.
