I have been with Merchants Bank for 18 years. I always thought they had decent service but I did not realize how fair they were until I recently moved out of state and had to open a new account with another bank. There were NO other banks I found that charged as few or less fees as merchants. The only downside is there are no ATMs very far out of VT, and if you are traveling you need to let them know where you will be and when so they won't put a hold on your card (even if they do its an easy call to fix it)

I've been with Merchants Bank for 15 yrs now and have had nothing but great service when needed. They went above and beyond when I was victim of fraud (which they promptly discovered and put a stop to). The staff are always friendly and helpful whether it be in person or over the phone. A+

Used to be a really friendly and service oriented bank locally here in Vermont. Everything has changed to nickle and diming the customer with limited benefits in return. NEVER get the mobile app, its $3 a month and impossible to cancel. Call customer service they say go to local branch, go to local branch they say call customer service. its a joke and just another way to make money. I mean bank of americas mobile app is free, almost all companies I know have a free mobile app. I am told now that if ever check my account online, even without the app(which has been deleted) I will be charged. so now Ive been charged three times because I checked the app out once. Reason I checked the app was because I was told it was free when I went to check my account online. Little did I know in the fine print was that I needed to have a special account to get the mobile app free. But this is where they get you, the special account is $5 a month, unless of course you have $1000 in the account at all times....what kind of option is this? never spend $1000 or if you do pay $5 a month, or pay $3 a month to access your account via mobile...what a joke,with mobile traffic up to nearly 25% of website usage online, they're taking way to much advantage of the system.

Horrible Bank, Horrible policies. They constantly decline your purchases because they are trying to "protect" you. They don't care that you shop there all the time or that the store is literally 1/4 mile from my address. And good luck trying to convince them to clear the purchase if you can even get them on the phone. Its insane. Avoid the hassle and take your business elsewhere. I'm done with this awful treatment.
