Mesob Ethiopian Restaurant of Montclair, NJ is a favorite for both vegans & meat lovers with its authentic Ethiopian food. All of our foods are prepared with imported Ethiopian spices blended daily. Our produce is always fresh and our sauces are prepared as ordered. The friendly staff and warm decor makes Mesob the perfect place to relax with family and friends. Our Injera, a delicious sourdough Ethiopian flat bread that you wrap your food with, makes Mesob a favorite with kids, where it’s a treat to “eat with your hands.” (but we also have silverware, if you prefer!) The Atmosphere was warm and the Decor at one time would've been quaint, but time has eroded some of the charm. The food would be very good if you are used to unseasoned English/Irish or Germanic cuisine. If you are adventurous...if you like Thai food, or Indian food, you might find the food here too simple...The waiter was impatient, and explained little. Though all the food is seasoned differently, there was very little play between flavors....no complexity. Not enough seasoning....something was missing. The quality of the chicken was just okay...Not bad, just not good. Because the chicken was dark meat it couldn't be dry, but just missed it. The beef dish was worse than the chicken. If you have to come here, all hope lies in the most expensive lamb dish. At one time, it was probably the crown jewel. Now it is at least a safe bet. I hope Mesob improves...maybe lunch is the wrong time to visit. My experience was that it had so much potential, and may have been great once, but now is a worn commodity.

It was my first visit to Ethiopian cuisine. I did some research before visiting here for a lunch party with co-workers. Knew what to expect. Liked their hospitality, ginger tea and traditional food. Nice ambience. Road side parking could be a challenge sometimes but I was lucky to find a spot nearby. Would love to visit again to try variety.

I've always had a great dining experience here. The sharing plates with a mix of meat and/or vegetarian options are the way to go, in my opinion. The is a bring your own alcohol location. The coffee they serve is a great way to end a meal. Tell them when you order that you'd like it so they can prep it while you eat.

Wow, what a total disappointment. My girlfriend and I were looking for a unique option for valentines day and based on the good reviews, we wanted to give Mesob a shot. Having looked at the menu, we were excited to try the sampler for 2. When we seated, however, we learned that the sampler was not an option for valentines day and that they only had a price fixe menu @ $50 per person for meat entrees. This was not shown anywhere on open table or on the restaurant's website and was a massive disappointment not only due to the price, but also due to not being able to try the wider variety of food options. Ultimately, with the exception of the mushroom appetizer, I found the food to be bland and uninspired. The chicken was super plain, while the beef entree was better but hardly unique. Dessert options were pitiful. Ambiance was fine, waitstaff were pleasant but curt. I was willing to excuse the obvious and pathetic valentines day cash grab (how bout a heads up next time boneheads) if the food was outstanding, but it just wasn't. Doubt I would return

Great Ethiopian food and just great food in general. You wouldn't think that you would fill up on the food but at the end of the meal I was stuffed. Great meat and vegan options, and everything was great. I will definitely bring going back and I recommend everyone who wants to try Ethiopian food to come here.
