We are currently still staying here on day 4, but if we could change hospitals I would do it in a heartbeat. Sucks when you can clearly tell when a nurse is passionate about her job vs in if for the pay. We had Nurse Mary today and if we called for anything she would come in already with an attitude and basically make if seem as our request was nonsense plus would not even check up on the patient. I do understand this is a hard job so I usually NEVER write reviews, but come on if you do not like your job QUIT! Should not be working as a nurse if you cannot even act like you care or at least come in with a fake smile. The hospital itself is very clean, the people in the front are friendly and overall nice environment, but the experience we had today just left bad taste in oue mouth

My mother is 90 years old and was admitted to Methodist Mansfield with stroke-like symptoms. I never once received a proactive call from anyone at this facility for the entire week my mother was there. I had to call every day just for basic updates on her condition (I live out of state). The attending doctor in the hospital wanted to send her to HealthSouth for 2-3 weeks of intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy. We've been through the PT/OT process for other reasons in the past and it's very strenuous for a 90-year-old to do 3 therapy sessions/day. My mother recovered about 98% with no therapy at all, and now we're doing 3 therapy sessions per WEEK (not per day) on an outpatient basis. The worst part is the lack of personal hygiene at this facility. Based on what I've found out so far, she probably never had her teeth brushed during the entire stay, and after talking to the nursing manager, they have no record as to whether they did or didn't brush her teeth. I also seriously doubt she had a shower or bath of any kind based on the body odor when she was transported back to her assisted living facility. The nursing manager told me my mother declined her shower/bath more than once and they NEVER reached out to me or anyone else in the family to let us know. Instead, they let an elderly lady with dementia call the shots on her personal hygiene? The hospital policy is supposed to be - brush teeth at least once/day and shower every day or at least every other day. My mother was there from Monday to Monday and never received a bath or shower or any other personal hygiene. In this situation, they should've reached out to me (my name/number was on the board in her room the whole time) the first time she declined a shower or brushing her teeth. Instead of asking someone with dementia if they want to take a shower and brush their teeth, they should just come in and say it's time for your shower and to brush your teeth and make it happen. There wouldn’t have been any issues if it were handled this way. Personal hygiene should be nursing 101 in a hospital environment. Totally disgusted that they allowed this to happen with no proactive contact by the hospital. I'm still waiting for the nursing manager to call me back to explain, but it seems there is no explanation... Over a full 7 day period she came in contact with several nurses and nobody took any responsibility to make sure she was taken care of properly.

This review is LONG overdue. I was hospitalized through the ER with pancreatitis and gallstones. The ER staff was only thing great about my 6 day stay. I was admitted and put on IV antibiotics before any surgery could be done. The nursing staff was the worse ever. The lab and staff collected my blood multiple times a day, which I understood to a certain point. They even lost my blood at one time because we kept a count of when my blood was drawn (18 times in 5 days). Nurses had a non-nonchalant attitude about doing their job. The nurse infiltrated my arm twice in the same day, after I repeatedly told her something was wrong. They wheeled me down for surgery with me asking for them to remove the IV. I demanded they stop moving while my husband got the nurse to remove it in the hallway. I was in more pain from the infiltration than the pancreatitis. They continue on to the surgery area where the staff there got nervous about my arm. After talking among themselves they then told me they couldn't do surgery because of it. So, I'm hospitalized another day because of their staff. They than tell me they were moving me to another wing with "better" nurses. I was afraid for my life at this point. With my family there around the clock I made it through surgery. The "better" nurses were exactly that, which is why I gave them 2 stars. Than I get a huge bill with no consideration that I was hospitalized a extra day because of their staff. Now, I've needed a CT scan with contrast that has been attempted on two different days because they can't get a IV going in my vain. I didn't have this problem before so who knows if I'm all clear because they can't get a IV. Run don't walk from this place!

I had to take my husband to the ER on December 19, 2017 for excruciating chest pain and difficulty breathing. For some reason the staff at the check-in desk decided to judge/misdiagnose my husband as having anxiety, which he's never had before. When they saw his lips were turning blue and his color was fading they began to take things more seriously, however the doctor on duty (Dr. Barry) was condescending and uncaring from the start and throughout our time in the ER. My husband was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis that was causing his diaphragm to be inflamed, ultimately causing the breathing issues. Dr. Barry implied that the reason for the pancreatitis was misuse of alcohol, which was also not the case here. (After speaking with two other doctors, including an ER Trauma doctor from another hospital and my husband's primary care physician, both said that 75% of the cases they both have seen of pancreatitis have been untraceable to a specific cause.) The prescribed treatment was hydration and a liquid diet for a few days that could be handled at home, but an overnight stay was supposedly necessary. The physician assistant/nurse assigned to his case would not discharge us and told us that discharge paperwork would be withheld if we opted to leave to follow up with my husband's primary care physician. Regardless, he checked himself out and went back for the records the next day so he could follow up with his own doctor (who confirmed that a hospital stay was not necessary at all). Now we receive a letter than over $12K in charges are being submitted to insurance without any explanation of what could possibly add up to $12K. We've requested an itemized bill (which should've been provided already) that will have to be sent to us via snail mail. This hospital needs some serious empathy training for the ER staff and a more realistic, transparent billing system. And don't misjudge a patient with incorrect assumptions that impair the ability to effectively care for/treat a person.

Mom has a chronic disease and hadn’t been feeling good for about two weeks. We ended up choosing Mansfield, even though we usually go to Charlton. The ER waiting room was nice, the staff saw her very quickly. Once back in the room, her nurse was very friendly, as well as the doctor. However, they never even started her on fluids, even though everyone agreed she was dehydrated. After drawing blood and her giving a urine sample, we didn’t see anyone, not even her nurse for a good 1.5+ hour(s). The nurse did eventually explain that the waiting room and ER room were packed. However, my mom was never once offered food, drink. We had been there all day, at this point. Coming in at 11:30, and she wasn’t discharged till 5, mind you, still without fluids and another prescription for nausea. I understand the doctor’s hands were tied, considering her condition. I just feel like there could have been more things done to make her more comforatible. As I said, she has a chronic disease, and being dehydrated doesn’t help her other symptoms, and nothing was done about the smallest things. They just seemed to forget about her and then when they finally got back around, they seemed to just be wanting to clear the bed. Staff was friendly, areas were cleaned. I would come back, but I do feel more could’ve been done.
