Story

Metrograph is the ultimate destination for cinema lovers. We screen rare, archival-print films alongside first-run movies in state-of-the-art digital video.

"The coolest new movie theater in the world."—GQ

Best Repertory Film Programmers 2016—VILLAGE VOICE

Our restaurant—The Metrograph Commissary—serves dinner 7 days a week, brunch on Saturday and Sundays, and cocktails til late every night. We're also serving breakfast and lunch (11am-4pm) Mon-Fri.

At Metrograph, we're creating a spirit that harkens back to the great movie palaces of NYC in the 1920s and Hollywood's Golden Age—when writers, actors, and directors screened work, took meetings, and watched films in the backlots and commissaries of the big studios.

We also house a bookstore and a magically curated concession stand that has to be seen to be believed. Metrograph opened in 2016. It was founded and designed by Alexander Olch.

Great theater. "Homey" small theaters, with great screens and comfy seating. Great screens. Great popcorn, interesting selection of drinks. A selection of movies available nowhere else. Get there early so you don't sit in the front row.

One of my favorite indie cinemas in NYC. They have a wide-ranging and rather unique selection of films both American and foreign (marked even among indie theaters), a stylish lobby space with modern aesthetics, a nice restaurant upstairs (in the Michelin guide), and its location in a quiet old corner in the lower east side is interesting. Always to pleasure to see a film there.

The programming at the Metrograph is really great. TRULY eclectic, wide-ranging, and thoughtful. A great complement to Film Forum and Anthology Film Archives. The seats aren't always the most comfortable, so watch out for long films. But the curatorial vision here is a,l delight, esp when they show 35mm prints.

Nice small independent movie theater. They only have two screens and tends to show movies you can't see anywhere else in the city so it gets crowded. Luckily there is assigned seating. There seats are comfortable and there is plenty of leg room. I went with a friend who is 6'2" and he had plenty of space. The screen and sound system were good quality also. My only complaint is the concessions. They only have bottled drinks and the selection was poor: soda, sparkling water, and fancy juice drinks. It would have been nice to have something other than mine grapefruit juice as a non-carbonated option.

Watched the hypnotic "A Touch Of Sin" by Zhangke Jia. The copy was said to be 35mm and it was a blue-ray copy of the film instead... It was great to have the opportunity to watch this Masterpiece on the big screen. But blue ray is not the way to go, and it kept skipping...
