First, I want to write the “positives” about this clinic. Angie and Noah were exceptionally amazing and very caring! I started here in August for warts, and I thought I would be done in 2 months max. Nope, I still have warts and I have recently switched to a new place. The reason for leaving was Dr Waldman was very rude to me on last appointment and very rude to his staff, Angie in particular. I asked why he was prescribing Tagamet for warts, and he snapped at me and said am I the Dr or are you? WOW! Ok, Well, the way he talked to me at this appointment and others, I have decided to go elsewhere. The warts were not going away and usually after each treatment day it took me a day to day and half to walk normal again. I don’t usually write bad reports, but I feel it is my duty to let others know. The staff were amazing, Angie and Noah, just stay away from Dr Waldman.

I have been going to see Dr. Meier for a couple years now and she has always been wonderful. However, I had to see Dr. McCarten the last 2 times because Dr. Meier was out of the office for a prolonged period of time. That was a huge mistake. When I went in the first time, they immediately took x-rays of both of my feet before even examining my foot that I was having pain in. When the doc came in, he mentioned nothing at all about the x-rays. He pressed on the area that hurt and figured out immediately what was wrong, so not sure why x-rays were necessary (especially of both feet, which I am going to have to pay for because insurance isn't going to cover all of it). He then told me I might need surgery or physical therapy, gave me an injection to see if it would help my pain and symptoms temporarily, and told me to come back in a week. I was also supposed to call in and tell them how long the injection lasted and if it helped within a few days which I did. I went back a week later for my follow-up, which I paid another copay for. He literally spent 3 minutes in the room with me and said maybe 5 sentences to me, including that he thinks I should do physical therapy to start. He then walked out of the room without giving me a chance to ask any questions at all. My symptoms never really changed from the first visit, so not sure why physical therapy couldn't have been suggested at my first visit. The second appointment was a complete waste of my time and money, as was most of the first appointment. I almost feel like this doctor was just trying to do everything he could do to get more money out of me and my insurance company, and didn't even care about me at all. I am not made of money, so I am not looking forward to the bill I will be getting in the mail. I wish I would have waited for Dr. Meier. Other than Dr. McCarten, the rest of the staff is great and has always been courteous. I will be filing a grievance with this place so they formally know how horrible I felt I was treated and the what seems like fraudulent use of my insurance. If it weren't for my great experiences with Dr. Meier and the rest of the staff, this would have been a 1 star rating.

When I first initially went to the clinic, all of the individuals were incredibly nice and professional. They treated me kindly and with respect and did their due diligence in trying to assess what the problem was. The concern only came once the bill arrived at my house. I was charged over $150 for sports tape. Obviously I understand being charged for the doctor to wrap my foot, that was a completely separate charge but to charge $150 for sports tape is excessive and unconscionable. When I called the billing department to question why I was charged to that for Sports tape, I was told an actual cast was put on my foot. I indicated to her to her that it was sports tape and not a cast was on my foot. She told me that's what the doctor wrote so that is what I have to pay for. I filed a grievance with my insurance company as well as a formal complaint with the doctor. At this point I decided to pay the bill so it didn't go to collections and wait for the insurance company to respond. I left several messages to take care of it and did not receive a call back. Finally I escalated it and today I received a fairy rude call back. Meshele in the billing department was extremely unfriendly and very rude. I simply was paying off a bill. I asked for an email or an email of the receipt and she told me she couldn't do that. She said the only thing she could do for me is give me a confirmation number and she would mail the copy of the receipt out. I told her that would be sufficient. After she processed my payment she called me back with the confirmation number and was still extremely unfriendly . When she gave me the confirmation number instead of saying thank you and goodbye she simply hung up on me. I called her back and ask her if I had done something that warranted her being upset with me , she again had a terrible attitude but sarcastically apologized if I felt she was rude. At this point I simply said thank you and wished her a nice day. She hung up again. I honestly will never return here simply because I was treated so rude. I could have overlooked the dispute with the dollar amount for the sports wrap but to be treated with such a lack of respect is not OK I think it is important to amend my original rating from a 1 to 3 1/2 stars. The reason I'm doing such is because this facility contacted me and apologized for the behavior of their associate. I believe it goes along way the effort they made to rectify the situation and to make sure that a customer is treated with respect. I genuinely appreciate the office manager calling me and apologizing for her behavior if this woman as well as remedying the original issue. So where I had originally given then only one star, I definitely believe that due to the follow up of the office manager, a solid 3 1/2 almost 4 stars would be more appropriate at this time.

Others warned me to stay away from Dr. Brant McCartan, as he has injured and misdiagnosed several other patients. I called the office specifically to ask if he treated tendon disorders, and they scheduled me with Dr. Waldman, telling me that was the only doctor who accepted my insurance at their practice. Luckily, I called, needing to reschedule, and I was told Dr. Waldman didn't perform the type of repair I need (a tendon tear repair) and referred me to Dr. McCartan in their office. The office secretary, Dorris, got my phone number, date of birth, and insurance wrong. Dorris then called me, after scheduling with Dr. McCartan, and after I verified with her that he was able to do tendon repairs, and she yelled at me that Dr. McCartan would not see me without a referral (this was a week after I made the original appointment)! I didn't have a referral and my appointment was that day! My family even advised against seeing anyone from this office, and my sister's comment was: "would you really want to get care from people who can't even get your date of birth right?" I should have listened. The office finally relented and agreed for me to be seen. When I arrived for the appointment (I drove an hour and a half distance to come for the appointment), we waited over an hour to be seen and there were several other disgruntled patients sitting in the lobby, which was crowded and cold with a blast of cold air every time the door opened. We were brought back to a room finally, and McCartan entered and told me to get up on the table, which was very uncomfortable for my back. I told him to lower the table's angle, as it hurt my back, and he lowered it and then raised it again even after I told him it was hurting my back. I told him I didn't want my good foot being touched, and he became angry and asked what I came there for. I told him he should have known, as I was very specific with the staff, and I had my films with me. He said: "well, I don't know if that's your diagnosis because I didn't do the ultrasound"?????? (the ultrasound was done by a Froedtert radiologist with over 20 years of experience). McCartan then made backhanded, nasty remarks, stating: "well, if you won't let me touch your good foot, no wonder why no other doctor wants to help you." I didn't permit McCartan to continue to bait me, and simply proceeded with point out where my pain was. Another thing that concerned me was that he did not know the basic anatomy of the foot and told me there was no retinaculum in the ankle area when I know there are (I am a nurse with over 20 years of experience and I am in grad school for physiology). McCartan then essentially agreed that I had a tendon tear that needed repair and told me he didn't have any success when he repaired them (well, then, why did he even have me come in---to collect the consult fee without having to do anything?). He left the room and came back with three phone numbers of other doctors--very rude, when he could have simply told me that over the phone and saved me the consult fee, drive, and spared me from his nastiness. I would not let McCartan do surgery on my dog. McCartan also told me that he has a tear, as well, and he can run, when I know that peroneal brevis tears only get worse with time. By the way, he does not look like a runner, at all--in fact, he looks fairly out of shape. I told him that I have very bad pain, and he treated me like I was making it up. Keep your family---and your animals---away from this man.

I got the run around for months from Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Specialists! I was diagnosed with Accessory Navicular Syndrome (extra bone) and Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction. I was given Cortisone shots, placed in a boot, sent to physical therapy, placed in a boot and on crutches, sent for an MRI, placed in a boot, and sent for a nerve test. All along they knew that I may need surgery, and kept telling me after every appointment "If this doesn't work, we will need to do surgery." but then kept adding all these things that weren't working. I'd finally had enough and decided to seek a second opinion. My primary care physician referred me to an Orthopedic Surgeon, and low and behold, he figured out I needed surgery to remove the bone within 5 minutes of talking to him. I got the feeling from each appointment that these doctors thought I was lying to them. They would make excuses each time- the MRI didn't show anything (which according to my surgeon, with a condition such as mine, an MRI isn't going to light up like a Christmas tree), the X-rays are ONLY showing this bone, there's swelling but "oh well", etc. I am now at home recovering from surgery, and although there is pain from the procedure, it feels better than it did while I was suffering through the pain before. I just wish they could have admitted that my condition was beyond them so I could have gotten the help I needed before I wasted almost a year of my life continuing to come here. Or maybe they just wanted to keep collecting payments from myself and my insurance company for all the office visits. Either way, I will never go here again or recommend anyone to Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Specialists.
