These guys are awesome. Set my wife and I up with an awesome hike/fish recommendation, had all the flies I needed, and were there on the phone when we got lost on the trail. We will be back!

No fishing licenses, and very disappointed with the (lack of) service here. We entered the shop a little after noon on a Saturday in August, looking for a fishing license and a location to fish nearby that required 4x4 access so we could do some four-wheeling on our way. First of all, the guy was working on tying a leader to some fly line and didn't bother to look up and greet us at any point during the entire following exchange. We asked (clearly) about fishing licenses and got a response from this guy pertaining to "lessons". That's fine, I can understand the mix up. We then clarified our request to "fishing license" and found that this shop does not have the ability to issue licenses. (He still hasn't looked up from his leader project...) We then asked where we could secure a license if he was unable to issue one, and were told to check with Ace hardware or Sports Authority (neither can issue licenses, we found out after calling them shortly thereafter; The Country Market does though!). The third item, a fishing location needing 4x4 access: We were told about this "great spot" called Piney Lake that was about 12mi outside of Vail and needed a "serious 4-wheel drive" to access. What a joke. Let's just say we drove past some people camping out of their VW Jetta on the way up, just off of the basically paved Forest Service road. And then the lake! There was a lake, I'll give him that, but why would you tell a couple guys looking for serious fishing to go to this particular one? It was a private pond with a dude ranch, some canoe rentals, and a wedding going on that day... And he never made eye contact with us! I would find a different fly shop if I were you, maybe in Avon or Frisco.
