Richard L. Smith, PT is at our Great Northern Loop location and Edie G. Smith, PT is at our Bancroft location.
Richard is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and has practiced Physical Therapy for 31 years. Along with Biology and Physical Therapy degrees from the University of Colorado, he received a Masters of Science degree in Anatomy from Colorado State University.
Richard is the President of Missoula Physical Therapy Inc. Richard is a practicing clinician with expertise in treating orthopedic injuries of all types, specializing in spinal, shoulder and knee pathologies. He is a partner and founder of Preferred Physical Therapy, an exclusive group of preferred providers with the highest practice standards in Montana.
Richard is Past-President of the Montana Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. He is currently Chairman of the Montana Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. He is also Past President of the Rehabilitation Association of Montana.
Richard was previously employed as Assistant Professor at the University of Montana Physical Therapy Program where he taught anatomy, neuroanatomy, and evaluation and treatment of orthopedic pathologies.
He has taken more than 50 continuing education courses and he has published numerous book chapters and research papers in peer review journals.
Richard is a long distance runner, mountain climber, and backcountry skier. He helps manage his daughter's soccer team and enjoys contributing to Missoula community projects.
Edie has been a practicing Physical Therapist for 21 years, with experience in hospital, rehabilitation and outpatient settings. She is co-owner of Missoula Physical Therapy since 1987. She specializes in treatment of orthopedic conditions, with expertise in hands-on therapy and exercise prescription for spinal, shoulder and lower extremity conditions.
Edie is a member of the APTA and its Sections in Geriatrics and Women's Health. She enjoys working with all age groups and complex diagnoses. A musician herself, she has a special interest in treating injuries related to the performing artist.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she has post graduate education in manual therapy and neuromuscular re-education. She has participated in extensive continuing education. She is a faculty affiliate at the University of Montana Physical Therapy Program, teaching massage and soft tissue mobilization.
Edie enjoys hiking, swimming and skiing. She is a singer and pianist, participating in various musical groups in Missoula.
