Keep reading to see how they wanted to end my dog's life without confirming what he had (and spoiler alert--THEY WERE WRONG). I had a great experience with them for about 12 years, but then I had a horrible experience. My dog was sick and had an allergy condition for as long as we've had him. We always got his medicine from them, and when it would get worse we'd get stronger doses. He had mange once when he was a puppy and had a big patch on his nose. His allergies had gotten worse in 2016 and he was on much stronger meds. Then in September/October 2016 my brother took him to the vet because it was getting so bad. The normal vet who saw my dog did not see him--rather her father. He looked over him and told my brother that he thinks he has lupus. So I called the vet to talk to them about it and she said it's a skin condition that can only be treated with making the side effects bearable. She said the spot on his nose was a clear sign of lupus (which as I stated above, he got a similar looking patch on his nose when he had mange as a puppy). He was 12 at the time and she was trying to talk me into putting him to sleep--she said I had to think about him and not be selfish. She said it's a "quality of life" situation. She talked to me for a while through my tears. I asked her "are you sure it is lupus? Is there any way to confirm?" She told me yes but they can't do the labs there, that they send them off so I wouldn't get same day results. AGAIN she recommended putting him to sleep. I said "Couldn't it be mange? He's had it before?" Reluctantly she said maybe in a high pitched tone like she was trying to make me feel better or something but that it was lupus. I asked her if we could just check for mange to be sure, and once AGAIN suggested putting him to sleep, AGAIN saying he's lived a long life and it's selfish to keep him suffering. I asked for another vet that would do same day lab results and she gave me two to choose from. I set up an appointment with Summer Street Animal Clinic in Burlington. I took him there, told the vet (Dr. Becky Gibilisco) the situation, and she looked him over and said SHE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS LUPUS. She thought it could be mange! So we did a test for mange, and what do you know? IT WAS MANGE. Just like I suggested! It was sarcoptic mange, and the medicine for his allergies was making it worse so that's why he was getting so bad. So we didn't have to even do the test for lupus! She got the treatment plan together and he received shots every week for 4 weeks and was PERFECTLY FINE. I was so upset with our vet at Mohr's. She just automatically assumed it was the disease who's diagnosis was to KILL HIM, instead of even CONSIDERING another disease that was TREATABLE. It pissed me off so much. I meant to call them back, I probably will here someday, to tell them how wrong they were, and that instead of considering something that did not result in death to my dog, they suggested I basically KILL HIM. My dog has since passed away due to an unrelated matter (well it kind of was related in the fact that his liver was most likely damaged from all the medicine over they years). Please PLEASE question your vets! Get a second opinion, especially when your pet's life is at stake! Do not let them talk you into putting them down until you get another opinion. Check out the internet, see if there are other things it could be, because obviously these vets don't consider everything!
