Portland's first shop for adventure!
Mountain Shop was founded in 1937 by local climber/skier Everett Darr and his wife. Together they imported pitons and crampons from Europe and made climbing packs for their friends. Through several owners and locations, Mountain Shop has remained a locally owned and operated store, making it the oldest (that we know of) shop of its kind in the country.
Our experience has taught us two things: 1) Only carry the best quality gear on the market. We sell gear that lasts, functions and fits. 2) Provide the very best customer service available. We won't just sell you the most expensive equipment in the store, we only sell you what you need. We talk to you and find out what you're doing, what you have, and what you need. Everything you purchase from us is customized for you and your needs.
