The adventure of Mr. Chow begins the minute you walk in the door and the Maitre D shakes your hand & wecomes you. Food was delicious and the crowd lively and very downtown. Great overall experienceFood: 5/5
Has has always been top notch here but recently we’ve seen portions being reduced and prices gone up. Last night we had a unfortunate experience when we 7 people were wrongly charged for 11 bottles of Pelegrino when we only had 4, and they put up a fight with us over it. That’s why they loose a star for my review. Otherwise great place, but we will probably think twice before coming back after a small sour taste from the argument.
Amazing food. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. Our experience was top notch. Tried a few things we normally wouldn’t have because the waiter recommended them and they were delicious.Food: 5/5
They really do try to make this a luxury dining experience and I can appreciate that, to an extent. Great service, servers were constantly coming around, there was a strong but not overpowering natural floral scent throughout the restaurant that added nice ambiance. But the prices … are crazy. I’ve lived in NYC for 13 years, I know it’s not cheap but paying 28$ for scallion pancakes??? Scallion pancakes cost probably 1$ to make. There’s a reason they don’t post their menus online, I think. I also came with 6 people and they gave us one menu?? When we asked for more, they gave us one additional one. Overall, it’s a nice ambiance, the food was decent but nothing special. I don’t think I’d return but if money is no object and you just want a good ambiance for a big group, it’s a good spot.
My wife, our two teens, and I had the best experience here last night. The maitre d, who has been there there since I started coming over 15 years ago is incredible, always makes me and my family feel so welcome. Food was amazing, service impeccable, and atmosphere lively. Yes, it's expensive, but I never leave here feeling I overpaid for what I received. I can't wait to return, thank you for the perfect night out!
Stay away, you have been warned. Can’t believe this place is an actual business in NYC. They will give you 1 menu to confuse your table and then start ordering things for you. First $10 bottles water and keep pouring it. Then apps, and mains and they charge you a flat fee for everyone. They take advantage that your group is happy to be out and your guard is down. Like $26+ for a pancake?! Shame on you Mr. Chow!
I can’t believe this place is still in business after the scams they pull in there. It’s really wild. They give one person the menu for the table, which is all part of the plan… so everything stays a secret. We ordered a la carte, and then they up-sold us to pre fixe. We were OK with this until we realized we didn’t order enough food to meet that package... although it doesn’t state how many items per person on the menu- you have to take their word for it. They essentially shorted us an entire group sized entree. Maybe even 2? So our bill was 900 auto gratuity included for 5 people who shared 4 apps and 3 entrees. After about 5 minutes of arguing with them, they did give up and bill us based on the a la carte prices. But what an overall disappointment.
Seeing friends after 20 years and catching up makes you forget to take food photos Very fancy Chinese fine dining. Been to Mr Chow in Los Angeles a few years back. The best was an amazingly crispy gambler duck with pancakes. Don't miss out on that experience. Service was exceptional. Rose wine superb. All recommendations. We sat outside on a lovely summer night. Inside sitting is very elegant too. Nice experience.
One of THE most classic Chinese joints in NYC. The white prawns here may be one of the best Chinese dishes on earth. Pot stickers, salt and pepper prawns and vermicelli noodles with lobster are my go to appetizers, though the Mr Chow noodles are also outstanding these come with a delicious pork sauce. White prawns are a must. Pair it with the Beijing chicken, some brown rice with mushrooms and bok choi for a truly unique experience - or the Ma mignon if you’re a meat lover. Make sure to have a few drinks and enjoy the vibe as well!
Very disappointed. Would NOT recommend this place. Honestly, hole in the wall or ANY Chinese restaurants in Chinatown would have been way much better than this. The guy who took our order was condescending, not a good look for someone who works in the service industry. Our appetizer didn’t come first and instead it came a few minutes after our meal and it was cold, that guy insisted that was our request. That’s a lie. Another waiter took our chair away without saying anything. The meal itself was ok, nothing special about it.
