First off, you don’t need to a ride to get here. They will pick you up from anywhere in the county. Sometimes they will even get you out of bed and bring you.. AND it’s all free of charge!

I have a serious spine conditions where I need a 2 neurosurgeon surgery and it's urgent. I was sentenced and was given weekends to serve, with my condition, the judge gave me 2 years to complete. I served a "weekend" (8am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday) 2 days ago. The nursing staff is so cruel. I have letters they have seen from my neurosurgeon, my pain specialist and primary care physician that I can not miss a dose of my medication (especially pain, my spine is not connected full from a failed back fusion 2 years ago. The pain is intense). They refuse you medication. I took my morning dose and by 4pm, I was in serious pain. I walked up kindly to the guard desk and asked for medical. They called me a half hour later and this nurse (red/pink hair) has always been so rude to me and I don't understand why. I'm a calm & polite person who made a mistake and am paying my time for it. I asked for ibuprofen. She treated me awful but I was given 800mg of ibuprofen and her attitude towards me was so mean. She yelled at me and I simply said "you don't have to be so rude to me" and I didn't say it rudely or loud. You get nowhere by treating the staff rude. I was approached by 4 guards and I told them about my spine as they tossed me in an isolation cell? For asking for ibuprofen? The guards laughed and treated me awful. I had to suffer, laying on concrete with urine all over. I also had the flu and was in so much pain, I kept telling them that nicely but crying (all of this is on video and audio) and they would barely give me toilet paper. With the flu, so I was forced to sit there laying on pee and had no way to... clean myself (I know, TMI but you all need to know the truth). I begged for t.p. and they laughed as others were in isolation cells and needed to be (on drugs and drunk, acting ridiculous) thrashing around and were let out. I sat there for 3 1/2 hours bawling sitting & laying on concrete when my neurosurgeon wrote them prior that where my health is now as far as my spine, I should not be in jail conditions as it is beyond cruel punishment for a theft charge, and why the judge gave me 2 years to complete my weekends. I didn't kill a person or rob a bank, didn't assault anyone. I did theft and I can not believe that humans in general can treat another person so awful. Then at 7:30pm, 30 minutes until release, a guard (refused to give me his name or the others names) told me he wasn't letting me go home. He changed his mind and I wasn't going to be released. He was playing mind games. I'm on permanent social security disability for of all things, my spine and anxiety. ADA (American Disability Act) is violated here. To torture for thrills and laughs with the other guards who play on their phones all day, and I was left in there in massive pain and now terrified I wasn't being released for no reason! My attorney is going to ask the judge for video and audio from that day. Cruel is an understatement. I spent all day Sunday in the Emergency Room. They think my spine is now further damaged and is going to be compared to my current & recent CT SCAN and MRI to see how much more my spine is damaged by them. They started to call the group to be released at 8pm and they let me out. That caused me EXTREME emotional trauma from being the brunt of their entertainment and jokes. They sit there and make fun of people, the guards. I don't think the way they treated me was lawful. I was in EXTREME pain, I cried to where I could barely see as I drove home in intense pain. I called and they refused to give me names of these guards or nurse. I bawled my eyes out until 11pm, cried myself to sleep, woke up from nightmare that I was paralyzed in a cell, woke up at 3am bawling and cried until 4am where I passed back out from crying. I woke up Sunday, the day I was to complete my weekend but there was no way in heck I was going back. Hubby rushed me to the ER after talking to the after hours urgent calls to my neurosurgeon and pain Dr. They are very, very upset. They suggest a lawsuit is in order at this point. It's unfair to be tortured.

This building contains the Multnomah County Detention Center, Justice Center Courtrooms 1-4, part of the District Attorney's Office, Pretrial Release Services, and Close Street Supervision on one side. The 2nd Ave entrance is Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct lobby that is open 24/7. It's a jail. It's not pleasant. It could be worse.

True, this place doesn't sell clothes, but you can get three square meals and a bed for practical nothing for up to a year and a day. Do the crime, do the time......their motto
