About

The Museum of Ancient Life is the world's largest display of mounted dinosaurs. Not only will you meet our fierce prehistoric friends, you'll become a part of their world immersed in the chirps, sights, and sounds of the ancient world.

Story

Thanksgiving Point Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farm, garden, and museum complex that draws upon the natural world to cultivate transformative family learning. Using the natural world as a springboard for exploration, Thanksgiving Point combines place and process to shape today’s problem solvers into tomorrow’s makers and innovators. Thanksgiving Point is located at the center of Utah’s population growth equidistant between Provo and Salt Lake City metro areas.

Alan Ashton purchased the land for Thanksgiving Point on Valentine’s Day in 1995 as a gift. The creator of the groundbreaking software WordPerfect, Alan wanted to realize his beloved wife Karen’s dream of building a community gathering place.

At the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point, roam among the dinosaurs, explore a Carboniferous Forest, and dive deep into a Cretaceous Ocean at the Museum of Ancient Life. Come visit one of the world’s largest displays of mounted dinosaurs with 60 complete dinosaur skeletons in our galleries, along with more than 50 hands-on exhibits. This is the destination to enjoy learning about our pre-historic animals, playing with toy dinosaurs in the Erosion Table, and digging for fossils in the quarry dig.

OVERVIEW - 4.0 Came here as a spur of the moment thought. We'd seen the displays a few weeks ago, when we saw a movie at the Mammoth Screen from the Megaplex Movie Theater next store. LOCATION - 3 Easily seen from the freeway, but can be a little complicated to get to without the insight of a local or Google Maps. PRICE - 2 I honestly did not care for the price, and in fact I think this was the only negative part of our visit. Each adult is $15 and per child is $8. So with tax in the end we paid $42 for three. They have all kinds of "special" prices for this and that, season passes and whatnot, all way overpriced. I was told Tuesdays in August it is only $2 per person. We'll come back then. PRODUCT/SERVICE - 5 The fossils and displays were set up amazingly. My daughter was thoroughly entertained, which is saying quite a bit, as she has such a short attention span. I would have liked to spend more time reading about each of the artifacts, but I guess in August I will take more time. POINTERS/PERKS - 5 Come in August on a Tuesday when it is $2 per person, unless you want to make some financial sacrifices. They have several interactive activities for children, which is great! EMPLOYEES - 5 The employees were so friendly and patient with our several questions at the front desk.

We love coming to the museum! Our toddler really loved it for the first time today. Please get more sand for the erosion table! All 7 of our kids love it but there really isn't enough sand to go around (especially when older kids tend to hog it).

I love most of the events at Thanksgiving Point, but this museum is terrible. The interactive stations all need work. 1. Build a dinosaur with Velcro parts. The parts don't hold because the Velcro is old. 2. Build a dinosaur on a magnetic board. The magnetic pieces are missing, so they don't stick and fall off on tiny children. Last time I watched as two kids walked away crying after dropping pieces on themselves bc they wouldn't stick. 3. Water and Sand station. This one is the best, but every waterproof jacket and apron is broken. The Velcro doesn't work on the jackets and the aprons are missing strings. They've been broken pretty much the entire 7 months we've had a membership and most are soaking wet. 4. The sand pit, good luck finding a brush or utensil and a place to sit if you're a parent. It's a strange bottleneck of an area too. My son loves dinosaurs, but if we didn't have the membership, we would only go to the dinosaur museum in Salt Lake. This one definitely needs a lot of work to not only make the boring stations work/have supplies, but it also makes the dinosaurs pretty inaccessible to small children. Not engaging at all.

I really like this museum and the fun exhibits they have. I really like that throughout the museum they have small activities to keep the kids engaged. My daughter loves the middle with the large water/sand table as well as the end with digging for dinosaur bones! All in all an afternoon well spent whenever we go!

Great deals on Tuesdays in August (only $2 per person!) Very interactive exhibits and very nice! Plan to spend about 90 minutes there!
