Very interesting! We learned so much about the history of the cavalry. I would definitely recommend a visit. Also if you can, be sure to ask Rae (museum director) questions. He is full of a wealth of information.

This museum contains an excellent collection of horse soldier material, but it fails to tell a story. I would recommend that one cabinet be given over to a special display for 3-6 months and then rotated to something else. There are so many horse soldier stories to be told, the rotation would bring back their audience which they really need.

This museum is a must-see at an amazing price ($3 per adult and $2 per child over 6, free for kids 5 & under). If you are at all interested in horses and/or saddlery, this place displays an unbelievable number of historical saddles. We came to check this museum out as my boyfriend loves everything historical and my kids and I enjoy history museums. We were the only people there so the director, Rae Whitley, walked us through the entire museum and told us historical facts and stories about all of the artifacts. There weren't many labeled pieces, so we REALLY enjoyed Rae's accompanying information. He even pulled out Civil War uniform jackets for the kids to put on, let them hold the different sabers and a rifle replica, and try on the saver training fencing helmet. Had we walked through this on our own, I'm not sure we would have found it as interesting because not every exhibit had more than a name label -- however, Rae's history lessons tied up in to stories made this the best museum experience we've had! (And we've been to a lot of museums!) In addition to the historical facts, he incorporated my 7 and 10 year old kiddos into his stories by making them part of a brigade and gearing questions towards them. Rae truly brings the exhibits to life. Our favorite part of the museum was the Mules from Mars exhibit. We learned a lot, and would highly recommend this museum to people of all ages. Make sure you get the walk through from Rae if he's not busy!
