Great historic place. A little difficult to access some of the shops due to lack of handicap access ramps but that tends to be the case with most of these sorts of places. Ships can be boarded and the staff there was knowledgeable about their subjects. Great for a family day out. Highly recommended. The scale model was really cool and should definitely be on the must see list.

Honestly didn't know what to expect before going but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Short version - lots of interesting things to see, well worth the prielce of admission. Thought we'd be in and out but ending up spending 2.5hrs here! Long version - The first part we went to was the shipyard. There's a keel display with information and history on how the keel is the basis of the ship - surprisingly interesting. Same goes for the rope making section - who knew this would be fascinating?! Then you have the Charles W. Morgan - an old whaling ship. You can walk around and see the interior. Worth a visit. The best part for me was the recreation of an 1800's Mystic town. You get to go into an old school house, chemist, church, house, etc. The other really cool thing they had was a miniature model of Mystic. It showed lots of detail of the shipyards and houses from the 1800's - make sure you find it and stop in. Great place to visit for the young and the old.

If you love sailing and the sea, you will love this place. Even if you don't sail, it is fascinating. This was an active shipbuilding area in the 1800s and the museum has preserved many of the buildings and transported others from other communities in the area. They have created a small ship building village. They also have a number of historic ships that you can tour. One of the fun things to do is to sit and listen to sea shanties being sung and you can join in as well. They also sometimes do a ceremony on the old whaling ship called Good Old Horse. It has good story behind it and a catchy song that goes along with it. You can also see various boats being repaired, blacksmiths working, and a variety of other things that no longer exist in every day life.

The mystic seaport is a really nice living museum. We were there during the of season, but it was still nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered all our questions and are very knowledgeable about the history of many of the vessels in the port. We also enjoyed the support buildings which help you to get an idea of what the seaport looked like in the 19th century.

Clean and great exhibits. Living history on display. It's not cheap but worth it. Lots of parking. Gift shop has neat stuff and lots of unique sea-related books. Lots of great stuff available not easily found elsewhere even in New England.
