About

Nantucket's modern, American steakhouse in the historic Jared Coffin House.

Story

Now in its fourth season, Nantucket Prime is the only steak house on Nantucket being fueled by Executive Chef Quang Tran and General Manager + Wine Director Katherine Brown. Nantucket Prime resides in the historic Jared Coffin House, one of the most legendary restaurant spaces on island. Located at 29 Broad Street, patio diners and bar patrons enjoy a gorgeous view of both Broad and Centre Street. Nantucket Prime will be open seasonally, 7 days a week, serving lunch, and dinner as well as brunch on Sundays. Our fare consists of dry and wet-aged prime, prime+ and A5 grade steaks, fresh New England seafood and locally sourced produce. The menu will feature seasonal ingredients from sustainable farms, such as Far Away Farm, Leaping Waters Farm and Nantucket's own Bartlett Farm and Pumpkin Pond Farm. Our thoughtfully constructed libations menu includes a vast selection of new and old world wines, well-balanced cocktails and American craft beers as well as some old favorites.

The restaurant contains 160 seats inclusive of a formal dining room, a lounge and a patio dining space with an outdoor bar. Our dining room highlights leather banquettes and artwork of Nantucket landmarks. The lounge offers high-top tables, leather chairs and an intimate 6-seat bar. The patio features a 10-seat mahogany bar, 80-seat dining space and heat lamps for the occasionally cool Nantucket nights. The restaurant does offer bookings for private events and has licensure for live entertainment.

We dined there last night. They were kind enough to hold our reservation and gave us a nice table. No champagne by the glass, "sold out for the season". Seemed odd. I ordered the filler medium. They over cooked and it came out week done. We had a couple sides that were okay. Surprised by the high ratings. Service by Tyler was ok. Underwhelmed.

This is not one of the Nantucket restaurants worth going to: service is slow and not very attentive or professional; food is well below average; and indoor ambience / decor is non-existent. But food is the most important ingredient: a 16 oz rib eye was the thinnest cut of steak I've ever been served (8 oz at most) with a bearnaise sauce that was merely a lump of butter; the new England clam chowder was extremely salty; and the appetizer of heirloom tomatoes was a strange and tasteless concoction of tomato skins floating in about half an inch of olive oil with a square of nondescript cheese; the mashed potatoes were, however, very good. Why eat here when you can go to Dune, 29 Fair Street, Galley Beach, Proprietors Inn, Brant Point Grill or so many other Nantucket restaurants that offer truly fine, creative dining options ?

Service was good and the food was excellent. The steak and cheese sandwich was outstanding.

New head chef is incredible. Food is fantastic. Must have the crudo and any special. Can't wait to have brunch, rumored to be best on island.

Great outdoor patio, incredible wine list (including some good bargains by the glass), and delicious menu! Our go to for lunch is steak frites or the big m'ACK and a few glasses of rose and for dinner you can't beat their selection of bone-in steaks with a bottle of red!
